Because traditionally they had jobs and girls did not. Because traditionally men make more money than women. Because traditionally men like to be the "bread winners". Because traditionally men like to show they are financially stable and therefore good relationship material.

Personally I only think its fair for the person who asked to pay for the dinner. If she decides to ask me out then I expect her to pay and I even mention this before we go out. If she is not game then we go dutch. The times are changing and thus the dating habits must change as well!

guys like the chase. Most of them want to have to work, put in time, effort, and resources into getting the girl they want. Often, this means taking her out to dinner or a movie, and paying for it just shows respect, that you think she is worth spending money on (thus you value her), etc

probably because we wer suppose to be the one who came home with the money. although i wouldn't care one way or the other. if she wants to pay i don't mine.

Depends on the girl. But I don't like that, too stereotypic. I rather go on the half and half.
