Yes. It is legal and in most places, standard practise to handcuff you and put you in the back of the car if you are being detained or arrested for a crime. Anyone who tells you that he has to read you your miranda rights first has been watching too much TV.
If I arrest you for a crime that I believe you committed, I do not have to read you your rights unless I choose to question you about the crime. If you volunteer to tell me about the crime and I haven't asked you about it, I can use that in court against you without reading you your rights. Typically, most people only have their rights read to them or they are given a card to read that explains their rights just before they go before the judge for arraignment.

I don't understand why people continue to post wrong answers to this often asked question. This has to be the 10th time I've seen someone ask if it is legal to be detained and/or arrested without their rights being read. There are always like 15 people that will tell you that they know, without a shadow of a doubt, that it is illegal and that the asker's constitutional rights have been violated. I don't know how to build a HEMI big block so I wouldn't post an answer trying to give someone directions how to. Oh, and yes, it is legal.

yes it's for the officers safety as well as yours.

haven't you ever watched cops-
you either end up arrested or being let go...
if you were an officer would you rather keep someone in your car or cuffs or loose and able to run from you that much quicker

A police officer does not need to read you your rights unless they are questioning you.

You can be restrained or even arrested without them having to read them. The whole police having to read you your rights whenever they look at you thing is pure Hollywood.

Yes to the first part. Your Miranda Rights are only required for in custody interrogations. I answer that question almost daily.

Have no idea what the rest of your question is asking.

Yes. Police can detain you for their or your own safety without arresting you. They can also arrest you without reading you your rights, though they cannot use any information obtained before reading you your rights.

Depends where your from. In Canada your innocent untill proven guilty and if your rights were not read to you then the court would have no choice but to drop the charges...even if your guilty.Cops have to follow protocol. When they don't the laws stop working.
