Ford sales guy is right

On the key is an individual code..each key has it's own code.. to prevent theft, Ford forces you to program with a scan tool if you have only one key, so people don't program spare keys at say the valet parking lot and steal your car later... It takes two keys to program a third in the system...

I do recommend having three keys for any Ford PATS car, that way if you loose one, you still have two to make a third key from and it will only cost the key and not the key+labor

You will have to take it to a Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealer where they will cut and reprogram the new key and the old key. ( plan on 100.00 bucks)

For an extra few bucks have them make a third key, if you have two keys and go to the dealer and have another cut, you can program the key in the car without the expense of the dealer doing it

If you only have 1 programmed key, the car must be taken to a dealership to have the 2nd key programmed. The info on the 1st key has to be downloaded to an outside computer and reloaded onto the 2nd key. Once you have 2 programmed keys, you can program a 3rd one yourself - info in owner's manual.

howdy Devin, i might propose against selecting this vehicle. they're infamous for his or her undesirable transmissions. The V-6, 3.0l vehicles seem to hold up properly, although, in many circumstances outliving their transmissions. The excessive call for for those transmissions has made the value of rebuld/exchange upwards of $2500 right here on the West Coast. i for my section had to take away an in the previous form with the aid of donation to charity. seek for a Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Saturn in case you like a greater reliable, larger mileage vehicle.

You need to keys to do it yourself. You'll have to take your car to a dealer if you only have one.
