I've know many in my past line of work. It's not pretty and life does end quicker for most of them. The ones that seem to die youngest are the ones that were alcoholic very young. They became addicted very easy in a short time.
These are the ones living from County check and handouts, sleeping under the river bridge, getting beaten up by thugs, etc. There are a number my age, (mid fifties) that would pass in appearance as my father. Booze takes its toll. They usually have to find someone to be pallbearers since these unfortunate folks usually have few friends when they die. I've done it for 2 local brothers.
They were 2 years apart and both died from alcohol at age 47. These were rough and tumble good old boys from Shawneetown in Illinois. One had killed a man in a fight. Had many a police call there because of booze. When they died, their mom asked me and another policeman to carry them since us 2 cops got along with them pretty good.
If you think you have a problem with booze, you do. And if you don't think so, you probably do.

Alcoholics drink all the time and will put alcohol before paying bills. I work with a woman who use to be an alcoholic and she told me that she started drinking when she got out of bed and drank until she went back to bed.

I can sometimes tell by the color of their face. Just about all teh alcoholics I know have red blotchyness on their face. Some dont necessarily talk about it expecially if they are closet drinkers because there are a lot of those. Watch how fast they drink, and how early they do and also how often

i know a lot of heavy drinkers, none of them alcoholics. alcoholism is classified as a disease by the medical community, fatal, if untreated; there is no cure, only remission. i know a lot of alcoholics, most of them in recovery. heavy drinking doesn't make you an alcoholic, just as eating sugar doesn't make you a diabetic; you either have the illness, or you don't.
