We are seeking to evolve our consciousness or enlighten ourselves....and yet the physical body will inevitably die.
We don't evolve towards death....so it seems that there must be more to this human life.

Well, they do say that life is a cycle.
Maybe we are in a system where our individual lessons and paths merge into the grander experiment - given a particular set of circumstances how far can we, as a race, come. Is this our first go round or have we looped through the whole thing before? Perhaps we as energy beings are trying to understand our own history and evolution, and the concepts of interpersonal relationships. Maybe this is really university for our spirits - maybe even 1st grade since we are the only life form.
Some one recently suggested that more than being parts of God, maybe God is just us - our collective creative energy, creating this existence just for our own purposes. Is it possible that we as a group have collectively created this existence, simply because we wish it - we want something to do that is tactile and interesting?
Could that be why the world revolves - so there are some people awake at all times and therefore able to maintain the illusion, holding all those atoms in place with certain knowledge? Is that what good and evil is - a steering mechanism? And religions a way to give large pieces of the population the same story so they can intention and create the set out plan? So it's not so much good and evil, but more my way or some other way - and not so much the words God has written, but the perpetuated intentions of church leaders (everyday people like you and me).
I find it fascinating - but I also want to say, that Tom Robbins once again suggested to me recently that we seek enlightenment, but perhaps what we really should be trying to do is lightening up, keeping weight off our hearts.

As is very evident here there is evolution going on.
But also there is a great deal in the world RE-evolving (or , I just noticed, you could say re-volving...the more I look at that word the more I like it.)
There is definitely more to Be than we ever were. But there are times ancient, very ancient, when, collectively, people were in much better shape than they are now. A goodly portion of the growth people are experiencing is actually a recovery of awareness lost.
I just looked back at your Q. I guess a good question is, what do you mean exactly , when you say "original source"?

The enlightenment is always there only it has to discovered .We will get as many as bodies we want until we become capable of realising ourselves .The conciousness will act like a store house for all the impressions we have created in our life times .Everything will be put forward in our lives whenever time is ripe.Everything is inching towards enlightenment.

Yes, I believe that it is.....all the while bringing the wisdom we have gained as individual self back into the All.
Although, this is being transmitted on a continuum, and is infused into each of us through the hologram....
did you know that the energy field emitted by the human heart (the taurus) is made up of holographic substance, and when we are in the physical presence of another, it merges with that other, and there is a very deep energetic information exchange.....

Each and every human ask the same question that what was the beginning?
Our ultimate aim is to know from where we have evolved.
Once you know it leads to the end of this cycle of life.
No birth or death.
I heard many Hindu saints have the experience of going back to their original source when they were enlightened.
Enlightenment is knowing the source of sources.

In my understanding, not only humanity but the earth itself is evolving to a higher state.
I do love paradox. We are returning in a forward and upward direction
The polarisation which I keep going on about is all part of this process.

Tom Robbins book "Another Roadside Attraction" ends with one of the stories protagonists physically becoming light. Light. It's a fun read.

It's not only possible, it's inevitable.
No soul is forever ignorant.
Consciousness will evolve.
It will turn itself inside out to do so.
The tricky part is...the original source is in the future.
That's why it feels like we're evolving forward in time.
We instinctively know that's where we come from.
