There is really no reason why you couldn't do it yourself, unless you just don't have the time or interest. I didn't have any experience, but learned how to not only build a good and affordable website, but one that people actually visit! That is the million dollar secret :-) If you think you may want to give it a go yourself, this is the company I used http://www.homemade-success.com

But if you seriously just want to leave it to someone else to do, I recommend these folks (link in the source box) who will do a superb job, and it will be a real business, not just a pretty site out in cyberspace.

All the best.

There are several ways to go about this. If you have web design experience you can hire developers on several sites. If you don't have web development experience you probably want to hire someone like myself (Shameless self promotion) to handle the project for you.
Either way, the best way to get started is to lay out the goal of the site, find some similar sites out there (if there are any), and talk to a web designer to have them spec it out and bid on it for you. Always pay per project- never hourly. That's why being clear on what you want from the beginning is so important. If you want, you can email me at puaajtroy@yahoo.com and I can see if I'd be able to help you as I'm between projects right now.

I like APlus.net because the things you don't know how to do, just ask them, either by phone or email and they get back to you almost right away. Plenty of ready-made sites to create as your own, and it's as cheap as $7 a month. I've looked into quite a few, and most are a real pain in the butt to try to figure out, or they try to sell you a more expensive site after you start creating a site and need more help to create it.

This one offers a lot of great features if you want it professionally designed (the first link), if not, you can build it yourself too (the second link)

Sure, you can do it yourself, but a good marketer can do it better with MUCH better results. Leave the brain surgery to the brain surgeon.
