Ever heard of Rosalind Franklin?

Of course not. Her name was buried in the annals of historical science when Watson and Crick stole her X-ray diffraction images of DNA and took credit for elucidating the structure of DNA.

Truth be told, Watson and Crick were brilliant biologists, but lousy chemists. Had they excelled at chemistry, they probably could have figured out the structure on their own. But why do that when it's easier to snag a photo print from the grad student down the hall?
