I had been on effexor and my doctor had me go down gradually, cutting the pills in half. I had no problems doing it this way.

I just was weaned off of effexor 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had gained almost 60 pounds and had experienced unexplained bruising all over my body. My Dr. weaned me from 150mg daily to 75 mg daily (for 1 week) to 37.5 mg daily (for 1 week) and then was taken off of it. It was the worst experience of my life! I had panic attacks (which I had never had before), flu symptoms (nausea, fever, diarrhea up to 35 times a day) I had sweats, and brain "zaps" up to 15 times a day. I cried nonstop and felt so out of control. Don't let your Dr. tell you that there are not withdrawal side effects. They are real. My husband had to stay home from work with me and my mom had to keep my kids for about 4 days. I never want to experience anything like this ever again. If you have to go off of it, make sure you have lots of help and support - you can't do it alone!!!
