If I start by making up my own purpose, I will inevitably end by picking something that does bring me happiness, contentment, etc. So no matter what I pick as a purpose, the actual purpose will be to seek my own happiness and contentment. So it is all self deception.
If I want real purpose, one I didn't invent for my own pleasure, I have to assume a God. If I assume a God who created me, then I have to think that it was He who put this need for real purpose into my human nature in order to point me to seek Him. So seeking my Creator is my fundamental, underlying purpose and all else must flow from it.

purpose in life? My purpose in life is really I have no set purpose. Life comes at you and you have to make the best of it. You don't come into this world with a purpose. You make your own purpose.
