The U.S. embassy in our country is strict. For a person to be able to immigrate to the U.S., he has to have someone who would petition him there. He cannot apply for immigration as an independent applicant, unlike for Canada. That someone could either be fiance or close relative.

I don't have fiance or close relative to petition me to become a U.S. immigrant. I'm an accountant. I've tried applying at U.S. auditing firms but all my applications have been unsuccessful.

It has been my dream since I was a kid to live in the U.S.

Can anyone make some suggestions?

I live in the Philippines, btw.

First, don't listen to the idiots telling you to stay in your own country. Most people here are not like that, but that doesn't keep the idiots from talking the loudest.

First, talk to someone at the embassy and try to get some advice for your situation. I'm sure that you are not the first person to be in this predicament.

Next, try applying at some of the smaller and mid sized accounting and auditing firms. They may be more willing to make the extra effort to hire a great employee that needs assistance getting here. Also look into some of the certifications that are needed for accountants here in the United States. It may be that if you have some extra credentials, your resume will look more appealing.

If you haven't already, check out a resume and writing service to tailor your resume and cover letter to your situation. I got mine through ResumeEdge.com. My writer called me personally to talk about my situation and tailored my resume and cover letter to best showcase my abilities. Good Luck!

First, you need to find someone who would be willing to sponsor you on a work visa and it would help if for now it was someone you know that does any kind of work. Then you need to apply for a work visa then when you are approved for the visa you will get one when a visa number becomes available. Then when you come to the US you will need to file an I-765 for a work permit and file other paper work as well. A good immigration attorney can help you with that.

Good luck.

The only reason I am answering this is because I don't like the one answer you have already received. I really don't know how to get around immigration and I wouldn't advise trying. You should maybe come for a visit just to see if you like it here. Make friends. But in this day and time it is difficult for us (Americans) to just let anyone into our country.
Many people don't like us, so we have to be very careful.

try petitioning for something other than immigration, a visa perhaps, to get into the country. then see if you really want to be here. if you do, work on it from this end. it should be easier once you are in the country.
or you could try a green card, which means you can work and live in the US but aren't a citizen. then work from there to get citizenship. good luck!

You have to stay in the Phillipines! I'm sure it's very nice.
It's very difficult and very expensive to live in America.

America has a LOT of accountants.
