Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Does that give people permission to kill witches? wouldn't that contradict the "Love your neighbor" thingie?

The word sited from the Old Testament passage was first noted by Reginald Scott, 1584 in his book" Discoverie Of Witchcraft"
The author states that the word for witch in Hebrew actually means poisoner. Therefore if one reads the passage closer it is discovered that it means you shall not suffer a poisoner to live, (Let them die by their own means0 This makes much more sense and turns the Wicca argument of Christian persecution a straw man.

Originally, that was "Thou shalt not suffer a POISONER to live." King James had it changed because he wanted the Bible to more openly speak out against witchcraft. And yes, it does contradict the love your neighbor idea and the commandment "Thou shalt not murder". There are a lot of contradictions of this nature. Check out this youtube video for more examples:

add to that Lev 19:31 and 20:6. How about suffer not a witch to live ( among you ) and if they should persist after being told to stop their ultimate fate is to die at the resurrection.
Many times these sins caused the Jews to turn from God and He punished them for it.

Thou shalt always be honest and faithful to the provider of thy nookie.
&
Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless of course they pray to a different invisible man than you.
Two is all you need; Moses could have carried them down the hill in his frickin' pocket. I wouldn't mind those folks in Alabama posting them on the courthouse wall, as long as they provided one additional commandment:
Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself.
These are all you need to know Ever period...........,..

Sorcery was punishable by death because it was a crime against God himself. To invoke evil powers violated the first commandment to "have no other Gods". Sorcery was rebellion against God and his authority. In essence, it was teaming up with Satan instead of with God.
As I am not familiar with what a witch of today does, I can not say whether or not they would fit into this catagory of being a "sorceres"

According to the Mosaic Law, it does give one permission to kill a witch. Christ changed that though His Sermon on the Mount. He taught that we shouldn't kill them but instead love them.
