A good friend of mine pointed this out to me. Biblically, it was three days before Jesus rose again. How does your pastor explain this to your church?

Matthew 12:38-41
''For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
The bible states that Jesus died in the midst of the week.
Wed.6:00pm till Thursday 6:pm 1 day
Thursday 6:00pm till Friday 6:00 pm. 2nd day
Friday 6:00pm till Sat. 6:00 pm 3rd day
There were two Sabbaths that week. One was Passover which is a high Sabbath and the other was the regular weekly Sabbath,
The bible states that on the first day of the week early in the morning he was gone.
I don't believe any of it though. But if one is going to claim to be a believer at least do it right.

I'll answer you with some more questions. Did YOU realize that some cultures count days differently? Did you know that in Spanish speaking countries " one week from today" is expressed as " eight days from now"?
You yourself wrote "Biblically, it was three days before Jesus rose again."

As the other people who have also read the bible point out, the Bible says " on the third day." Friday is the first day, Saturday is the second and Sunday is the third day.

So, what was the question?

The Hebrew day was 12 hours. Jesus expired Friday afternoon and rose Sunday morning. That's about 36 hours, or 3 and 1/2 days. Interestingly, Jesus preached for 3 and 1/2 years. The tribulation lasts 3 and 1/2 years.

You should remember that Jesus was a Jew and the events surrounding his death were described quite clearly in the Hebrew Bible. The sacrificial lambs must be killed in the middle of the afternoon of the day before the Passover. Following the Hebrew calendar, we can know that Passover was listed on a Thursday that year which means it should begin at sundown Wednesday. He was killed on Wednesday afternoon and had to be taken off the execution stand before sundown to prevent defiling the holiday so he was buried on Wednesday evening at sundown. He was in the grave for exactly three full days so he rose from it on Saturday at sundown. He was seen walking about the next day. The idea of celebrating Easter on a Sunday (not necessarily the correct Sunday) makes sense. This Friday business is a bit off.

What I do realize is that Easter Sunday is the third day after Good Friday. The Bible says that Jesus rose ON the third day, not after three days.

Your friend is correct that there are not three days, but not correct in saying it was three days before Jesus rose.

Well it was the Catholics that set up the Easter observance as it is today. With Ash wednesday marking the beginning of lint going to palm sunday. from this point they get it wrong.
Palm Sunday is when Jesus entered Jerusalem. He spent 3 days doing miracles and stuff. the eve of tuesday is when he and disciples had last supper. he then sent Judas to do what he had to do. Jesus and the other 11 went to pray in the garden he was arrested by the soldiers about midnight then spent all day long in his mock trial and was crucified. he stayed on cross all night then a fellow named Joseph (not his dad) went and begged pilatte for his body to bury him which occurred on the day before preparation for passover holiday. the process took all day to get Jesus down and get him in the tomb before the holiday deadline which was thursday evening. Friday and saturday which was sabbeth the holiday was observed

Hey friend,

The Jewish calendar sees days start as sunset, not midnight/sunrise as Christians today do. This means that on the first day (Friday) He died, the second day (Friday night, Saturday day) He was dead, the third day (Saturday, night, Sunday day) He rose again. If we look at the Western viewpoint it doesn't make sense because we see only one day and the second He rose again but the Bible was written by Jews and so we must interpret it using Jewish customs, like their calendar. It is silly misunderstandings of cultural differences and bad 'logic' that cause most people to question Christianity. Not due to inherent faults in the Bible.

actually, it wasn't three days he waited before rising, it was three days in total for the thing to go down. some of Friday, all of Saturday, and some of Sunday, and yes this is what the Scripture says I've been over it many times. check it. he rose on the third day

he died at 9:00 on Friday

it was three days was in the third day it is not the same Jesus was dead about 40 hours the days began about 6 pm until 6 pm of the next day so from friday at 3:00 Pm until sunday mornig there are about 40-48 hours, in fact we only know that in sunday morning the body wasn´t there we don´t know if the resurrection occured hours after.
