It all depends on the difference between your color before it was dyed, the color you dyed it to, and which product you use. Shampooing after a few hours generally won't hurt your color that much, but you'll notice alot more run-off in the shower. Also, if you used a not-so-great brand of hair color, it could definatly fade. Waiting at least a day is usually enough for any brand or color. Shampooing right away is usually not good no matter what.

If you’re talking about dying your hair with a permanent hair color, then yes. In fact, most hair color formulas are designed expecting the hair to be shampooed after the coloring process. Shampooing helps to remove any staining of the skin surrounding the hairline and remove any excess color from the hair to prevent bleeding and staining of clothing and bedding.
In some cases, shampooing the hair as soon as the color is rinsed out during a hair color application is part of the directions the manufacturer indicates. Permanent hair color formulas inject color into the hair shaft as well as leaving color on the hair’s surface, but it is the color in the hair shaft that matters most, so shampooing the hair to remove the surface tint will give you a truer color.
However, the answer is different when you’re talking about semi-permanent or temporary haircolors. With semi-permanent color, you generally want to give the hair a little time for the color to fully absorb before shampooing, since the color will only last 8-12 shampoos. Of course, if you find that your semi-permanent hair color is too bold or too dark, you can soften the color by shampooing the hair. With temporary color, you can’t shampoo the hair after applying the color because the color only lasts until your next shampoo and would be washed away by shampooing immediately after the color is applied.
I also found these washing tips:
After coloring:
* To make your coloring to last longer, rinse your hair in lemon based solution immediately after dyeing. This raises the strength of the hair color.
* Another tip is to add two spoons of hair color to your regular conditioner after each shampoo. Leave it on three to five minutes and rinse it with warm water. This replenishes the color that was washed out.
* Bleaching your hair roots is required after shampooing.
Hope this helps :)

my hair is obviously blonde and that i dye it black so theres a brilliant distinction! regrettably if i dont shampoo my hair quickly after dying it, my head turns into very itchy from the dye. So i wash the dye out o.k. and then shampoo some hours after (many times in basic terms in the previous i flow to mattress). This works wonderful and doesnt make the colour pop out in any respect, different than for the nicely-known extra.

If it is professional dye you can wash it right after color if you did it your self with a general store color 24 hours. Be careful with reds they fade when you wash in warm water. Don't get chlorine in your hair for at least 2 weeks.

you should shampoo the color out of the hair to close down the cuticle and stopping the action of the color(keeps the hair color from fading) also condition to keep the hair strands smooth an soft.

Usually your can wash your hair the day after you get it dyed.
The only thing you should wait a weel or so on is going in chlorine/ the pool.
