the download starts but i still can't use the programs. When i try to open them...well media player...it says there is no default application to open the selected document...i also tried to download firefox and that won't work either. I'm on my grandparents' computer and i can't figure out how to get realplayer and media player and i need them for a project...thanks for your help!!!

apple isn't compatible with either one of the codecs you mention..., unless you can set up a dual boot..., one for windows and the other for a standard mac...

There are different versions of Media Players and these different versions offer downloads for both MAC, and PC.
Make sure that you are going to Google and type in Realplayer and then select the download for the Mac.
Do the same with the Windows Media Player.

Download and install the free version of Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin instead.
If you can't open the download you should try downloading and installing UnArchiver, then try opening your downloads.
You can find them at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com
