I despise those things!! They are in my cereal and Rice A Roni and cake mix! I use Tupperware and zip lock bags to keep them out! I have found nothing to keep them out on a permanent basis though. My kitchen is clean, the cupboards are clean, I can't make them stay out. I'm sick of sharing my food with them

Ok, now I am reallly grossed out. I didn't realize weevils were a rampant problem! I have only had them once, years ago....but now I have the urge to throw everything in my pantry out. And maybe to never ever ever use flour again....ewwwwwwwwww! Since I don't have a weevil problem though, maybe I am doing something right? I always wash my flour container before putting a new bag of flour into it. I also always keep my stuff in airtight containers, except my cereal but that never lasts long. So, my suggestion based on not having a weevil issue is to always use clean and airtight containers.

Adult weevils lay their eggs in flour. The government regulations for flour purity permit a certain percentage of weevil eggs in it. If you eat the flour before the eggs hatch you will never know. If you wait long enough for the eggs to hatch it will be obvious when you look at the flour in the box and see it crawling around (or at the cereal or the other grain products that are infested).

I learned 20 yrs ago how to get rid of them and it works. Haven't seen one since. I freeze all cereal and flour products at least 48 hours or longer. I leave oatmeal and cereal in the freezer as it isn't eaten quickly in my house. The eggs of these vermin could be in the pkg or between the box and pkg and hatch. I even freeze crackers . It annoyed my husband at first until he realized the critters weren't in our drawers or cupboards anymore. This was originally in the newspaper and I swear by it!

To prevent the eggs (which are already in the product, by the way) from hatching, I keep my cereal in the fridge. I remove the inner bag and throw the box away. As the cereal gets used, the bag takes up less and less space.
