Most Americans believe in God. Most of these theists probably believe that they believe in the same God, although perhaps in different ways and suspecting that others have errors in their beliefs. A study of the actual beliefs which people hold about the god they claim to believe in reveals interesting and consistent differences in exactly what it is that people belief.

John.

your details have about zip to do with your question, why is that?

"Most Americans believe in God."

i'm not american, and even if i was i could still be in the minority that doesn't believe in god. this is the closest you come to actually supporting your assertion. why isn't that embarassing for you?

"Most of these theists probably believe that they believe in the same God, although perhaps in different ways and suspecting that others have errors in their beliefs."

seems fair. they seemingly cannot agree on anything about god except the name they choose to refer to it by (and some can't even agree on that). so why should a dispassionate observer conclude that they're onto something?

"A study of the actual beliefs which people hold about the god they claim to believe in reveals interesting and consistent differences in exactly what it is that people belief."

ooh, a study? what are these 'interesting and consistent differences' then? and how does it have anything to do with your bizarre assertion that atheists believe in god?

I believe in God, but I'm not afraid of science or homosexuals. I know the Bible is not the literal word of anyone, but I try to follow the teachings of Jesus. That's just not enough for the growth industry that American Protestantism has become!

I also don't believe that the Earth is 7000 years old. Can I be intelligent and be a Christian? I don't know....

I don't. What's so hard about that for theists to understand and accept? Or do theists feel threatened by the fact that there are those who simply don't believe? Does the fact that there is a steadily growing number of non-theists somehow make them less secure in their belief?

This may come as a shock to you, but your amazing mind-reading powers are nothing more than a figment of your diseased imagination.

What evidence do you have that atheists believe in God? The sworn testimony of the voices in your head? Those aren't reliable witnesses.

Why do people keep saying something this stupid?

No John, I am an atheist, and I know I do NOT believe in any god/s.

One does not need to believe in any deity to be an american. There are about 10% of americans who are atheists.

Please do not try to presume that you know me or what I believe. That is a very condescending attitude, and by doing so, you represent your faith poorly.

No, atheists know they are moral people, unlike the devout who lie because they are too small-minded to believe that anyone thinks differently than they do.

No no no, it's the other way around. Many people who profess to be Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc, were indoctrinated into their faith since birth and, having developed the ability to distinguish myth from reality, are atheists in their minds and hearts but cannot admit this to themselves, their families, communities, congregations, etc.

That's the most insane question ever. I understood the words but they didn't make any sense in that order.

Did you notice that your comments don't have anything to do with the crazy assertion you made in your question?

Did you intend that, or did you simply forget to attempt to support that crazy assertion?
