I forgot to add these bases to my previous question- what base is best for a military family? We have to pick three preferences so were trying to narrow it down. Any and all information would be great! Thanks! Soldiers mos is personnel and rank is sergeant.

Fort Rucker- Alabama
Redstone Arsenal- Alabama
Fort Mccoy- Wisconsin

Also any other recommendations for other bases would be great. Any information on these bases, positive or negative would be great. The other bases we are considering are-

Fort Lee- Virginia
Fort Sill- Oklahoma
Fort Shafter- Hawaii
Fort Leavenworth- Kansas

Try googling them and getting information from the net, or call the base and ask questions such as schools, and playgrounds and recreation etc. Find out about what kind of housing and stuff like that. Definitly found out what schools are there, and location of the schools, and think about like is your child going to walk to school, or are you going to have to drop your children off too schoo. Think about traffic, because that could be a saftey issue.

Most of those are smaller bases, your best bet is Rucker from those choices. Fort Sill is in the middle of nowhere and HORRIBLE. I've never been to Hawaii (would love too) but from the ones who have its either they absolutely love it, or the absolutely hate it. The cost of living is atrocious there.
As far as area opportunities the best base I've been in is Ft. Campbell, Ky but for my favorite so far is Ft. Knox the area is nice, the wives usually love it but the soldiers usually hate it, lol.

I can only say two bases of those listed can be closed...
McCoy
Sill
It pains me to say Sill but it's one of the lease effective in when applied to our current military strategy. Hawaii needs to be kept because of the threat out of North Korea and to maintain a strong presence in the Far East.

With that being said, you asked a good question that made me think long and hard before I answered.

Try asking for Yuma Proving Grounds, Korea and Ft Wainwright.

By Army standards you should get Germany or Schoffield Barracks. HI is seriously expensive. Ft. Irwin has no place to spend money.

SSG US Army 73-82

Ft McMoy is a base that is near almost nothing. It is in Tomah WI. and Sparta WI. There is next to nothing to do there. Decent schools.

Ft Lee VA is about 90 miles from VA Beach. Lots to do all year long there.
