It should be geared toward inmates whom actually made a mistake or two in life, have gone in the wrong path due to bad luck or lack of employment. There are many inmates/ humans who deserve a second chance and would take advantage and do right.

Absolutely NOT! The U.S. military is not some great social experiment or the French Foreign Legion. Ask anybody in the military how they feel about criminals or barracks thieves. If they did it in civilian life then they would be more prone to do it in the close quarters of a military unit. We have enough problems in the military with barracks theft, bad checks, ID theft, etc. - and that is from folks with good records as civilians! If you can't trust someone with your billfold how could we trust them with our most important possession - our lives? How about they send a few of these "poor" misfortunates out to live at your house? They can have their second (third, fourth, etc) chance in the civilian world but not in the world's finest fighting force - the U.S. military!

When you say "inmate" - I tend to picture people who have committed felonies and are incarcerated for lengthy sentences - in that case- absolutely not- no way and under no circumstances what so ever.

Those people committed crimes because they chose to commit crimes. There are millions of people that have a hard luck story, bad parents, no job, grew up in the wrong neighborhood and those people work hard - some join the military -over come their obstacles and become productive members of society.

Felons committed crimes because they have no disregard for the health, welfare, safety, property of others. They committed a crime and should serve their full sentence. Having them join the military where they can be trained to be soldiers, use weapons etc is not a good idea.

No, Sara, I am tired and want to go home. We are given this choice (reincarnation) in our 'spiritual' life. We have lessons to be learned in the physical, here on earth. I only know this through a near-death experience over twenty years ago. Perhaps this is why we are not given this choice here. None of us would want to return, lol! Peace and Blessings

You drug addicted Hippie! Go back to the '60s and reclaim your flowerpower! The Military should only use scum inmates as front line cannon fodder!

I, myself serving in the military, have mixed views about this, perhaps take the murderers and put them in iraq and let them do there work over there, but as far as having them serve with me,no, it would have a lot to do with what crime they committed, anyone affiliated with drugs, well, we have drug tests, so it would weed them out. But i will say that yes, some people do indeed deserve a second chance in life, and the military is a great way to turn your life away, many people i stand beside every day came from bad situations.

Lots of people deserve a second chance, i would say in the context of your question Yes. but like you said it would depend on the crime and the behavior while incarcerated.
i would also keep a closer eye on them , just incase there very good at showing you what you want to see.

I am in agreement with you. Of course, this would have to be up to law enforcement as to the degree of the crime. If it involved murder or child molestation I think these people are criminally insane and should be in an institution for life.

It would have to be minor infractions where the military would be good for them in every way and improve their life.
