I see some people on here who seem to imply that an explanation that ultimately derives from Faith is superior to one that ultimately derives from Reason.

If there are two explanations for something - say just as an example, the existence of morality - one explanation is based on reason (social factors owing to living in community, etc), and the other is based on dogma (that it was revealed by God), WHY should I accept the dogmatic explanation over the one based on reason?

Science can't replace God. God is Love. Love can't be replaced by science.
To do so is dehumanizing. It is a lack of faith because you don't have the love to believe.

Religion can't replace Science. Science is logic. Logic can't be replaced by religion.
To do so is superstition. It is a lack of faith because you underestimate God far more than you realize. (Gods far bigger than this universe which is more or less an accident)

Because you live every day by faith. You have faith in reason. Good. Reason has it's place. My faith is in God. And my reasoning is prioritized. There are some questions I can't answer. I trust in God, and I know that someday soon all my questions will be answered.By trusting only in reason, all you're left with is unanswered questions. I don't seek to understand so that I might believe; I seek to believe so that I might understand. Your dualistic thinking can lead only to despair.

If you are a Buddhist... then Reason and Logic should always supercede faith.

In one of his last teachings before his passing into Nirvana, the Buddha reminded his disciples to never take of his teachings especially in the future, by "belief" alone. He told them to always analyse, investigate and take caution. If after careful analysis, a subject is still acceptable... only then, should a disciple embrace it.

Taoism and some Pagan paths, also has similar concepts of realising the Tao by seeing truth as it is.

good question. the best i've seen in a while. reason and faith should not contradict. rather, they should be used in harmony. faith is derived by deductive reasoning, and people of faith should reason using the assumptions of faith when there is no known truth to be called upon.
now, from a biblical point of view, we know that "faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (hebrews 11:1) but, the apostles were constantly citing eyewitnesses and prophecies from the old testament (something the people believed in because of their faith) to back their claims. this is the way you see reason and faith used in the new testament.
that's my best shot.

Believe in yourself, that is the only way to find your truth, believe in faith and question reasoning for a definite answer in Who you are or what serves you.
These two can be combined. Most people's faith dwell in to see it is to believe it. Yet they fail to realize that their thoughts manifested in their minds creates the result they wish in the outer world. And how long they hold on to these thoughts whether positive or negative, in feeling, will attract it to their lives. So for faith to build you must be aware of the world within, learn how to use this power, thus you will experience in amazement every perfect moment.
Reasoning is used in combination with your past experiences and the feelings you feel, this will help guide you in your daily situations, yet your dominant thoughts, your thoughts, is what creates your life.

Where did you get your ability to reason? Before you can ask your question, you must answer that. What's the more reasonable answer: You learned to reason by random chance or that someone created you with that ability?

seeing is believing. Ultimately, if almighty God was real and wanted to save us all and show us he exists. WHY wouldn't he just appear to us and then eveyone would know?
Its such a crock.

You should always choose reason over faith.
It's unreasonable not to.
