Remember Pentagon posting rules when posting to message boards. Yes. We would change the liberal attitude at home.

I am not in the army but my son is and I can only relay my perspective on this question.....My son truly believes that he is there to protect his queen and country and those that live here. He believes that his colleagues are his second family and would fight tooth and nail to protect them.....BUT he has decided to leave at the end of this year because he feels let down by the government etc...Lack of funding for even the basics that they need....Don't get me wrong I am very pleased that he is coming home but I really feel for him and the other loyal colleagues that have decided to leave and there are loads from all levels that have threw in the towel.....I know my son and if even he is leaving this country is seriously in trouble.......as to the war my personal opinion for what it is worth....someone had to take a stand but it should not have been based on lies, that is what undermines this country.....As to supporting America I wish they had thought about that during all the conflict with Ireland maybe if they had not financially supported this issue that could have been resolved sooner.....As to now get the soldiers out as putting 5000 troops in the Basra palace is not a sensible thing to do....They are like sitting ducks.....

It doesn't matter if you believe or not. You're there to do a job. Thats why you join up in the first place. Whether you believe or not is secondary.
The paramount driving force is keeping yourself and your mates alive. If it means taking life to achieve this - then so be it.
I served 15 years in a frontline unit.
My son is still serving in a frontline unit, has been to both Iraq and Afghanistan and is due to deploy again within the month. What would he change about the war - simply remove the "rules of engagement" thought up by faceless lawyers and allow the men on the ground to get on with the job instead of having to p*ssyfoot around.

I am not a soldier. But I would like to contribute to the discussion, if I may.
My friend recently returned from Iraq. I asked her a similiar question. She said that at first, she didn't understand why "we" (meaning the US) were there. But she came to see the purpose over the course of the year. She hopes the end is near, but she does see the progress.
Just one friend's opinion. But I respect her, and think that it is a good and thoughtful response.

We are taught to fight for the ARMY and our COUNTRY and ITS beliefs not for what We believe in, inparticulary.... I will be shipping out in a few days and I am a little nervous but I know I am doing the right thing... I also think we should pull more troops back, and just have fewer over there but Hey its not my job to make the big decisions Its my job to follow them hoping They know what their doing.....

Politicians are paid to think! - The military are not!
You don't have to believe in whats going on!.
We're paid to do a job and that's it!.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool!.
Oh and to change things! - id use neutron bombs to eradicate the opposition.

Yes, acually many people change from army+marines because they don't want to do what they need to. They usually go to navy or air force.

What about you? Are you particularly good at propaganda, demoralization and dissent? What are you arguing? What do you not believe?
They believe in what they are doing and we are here to make sure of that.
Thank you and Goodnight.
