If you have a Hyundai ( Year 2000 or more ) then they will be absolutely reliable. You can open any car website you will know that Hyundai since 2005 is becoming a brand with the fewest problems in every 100 Vehicles.
Hyundai used to be a cheap car company but not now, I even heard that they are considering to make a luxury brand like ( Lexus, Acura and Infiniti ) in a couple of years.

I own a 2006 sonata, I love my car alot! I changed from a 2002 mustang and it was a hard change but the sonata has giving me no problems and it is a great car! I work at a high end car dealer and two of our staff drive Hyundai. If you looked around you would see that they are rated number one in alot of categories now. Overall they are a great car. I would actually recommend something 2004 and newer due to warranty and all. Good luck

Your best bet is to check Consumer Reports, they do listings of cars that have had problems, or not. Their annual ratings usually tell the tale on what is generally wrong with the cars. And that early a Hyundai should be on their listings.
I can't tell you when they started getting better, but it was probably around then. I know my sister had an '87, and it didn't last 40k before it had serious problems. But the 2000's should be ok.

Yes they are dependable, reliable and very well equipped. I have done durability testing on a number of Kia and Hyundai cars and they all could shame far more expensive makes. We typically put 100,000KL on the cars we test (that's about 60,000 miles) in a short space of time. We test EVERYTHING, nothing is spared the evil eye.......Hyundai's pass with flying colours. The last one I tested was a lovely machine, had a great 1.6 diesel engine and came with airbags in the dashboard for driver and passenger, in the seats, in the front and side pillars. It also had electric windows all round, electric sunroof, electric heated and folding wing mirrors.....heated seats, ipod connection/USB connection, full climate control, trip computer and a good quality cd player. This car is now on sale for around £12000 brand spanking new. In all those miles the only thing it needed was a set of tyres. NOTHING went wrong. BMW,Mercedes etc could all learn a lesson from them as they are diabolical! Ignore the badge on the front and go for it, you will enjoy great customer service, a long warranty and years of great value motoring.

my daughter owns an 04 hyundai accent-she is very bad on maintaining it-it has been in two accidents-not her fault-no injuries but quite a bit of damage-still running excellent with almost 70,000 miles on it. we own an 05 elantra-60,000+ miles-no problems. recommend them. we had an 1988 excel gls-bought new with over 200,000 with all the original engine, clutch, transmission and ran excellant until it was totaled by a red-light runner.we owned an 05 civic that was alot of problems-sold it-

As much as I hate to admit it, the new Hyundai/Kias aren't bad. The ones from the 80s however were often sabotaged by underpaid workers. It's Korea after all.

YES they do, had one that went 400,000 miles. yes i replaced parts but with that many miles i NEVER replaced the engine or transmission. i am a mechanic and took very good care of it. the only reason i got rid of it was because a nasty little hail storm left some rather large dents in it and i got something else and donated the car
