Personally, I had vista on my laptop for about 2 months but decided to downgrade to XP because some of my programs wouldn't work, but that doesn't mean that Vista sucks
some of the new key features in vista is windows aero is a brand new graphical user interface, basically just eye candy, windows explorer 7, media player 11, MEDIA CENTER which is basically a hub where you play all of your music, videos and can even watch live TV if you've got a wired or wireless signal. In my opinion vista premium is the way to go the only reason i would go for ultimate is if you are in a corporate position and want to make pie charts.

Currently I use the ultimate version and if you look for 'OEM' version it costs roughly the same as the retail basic version.
The Basic version is just that.. and very limited.
The premium and ultimate versions are similar. The ultimate version has extra backup features and has downloads 'extras' such as the ability to have full motion desktop.
Despite the missinformation about, Vista is VERY stable and much more secure over Windows XP. Examples of this is the inability for spyware to install itself as a rootkit.
Vista comes with an ability to boot up fast, plus even more so if you have a pen drive.
If you follow the advice from some 'experts' they will tell you to wait for a service pack.. which is not going to happen for a long while. If you value your security then upgrade as soon as possible.
Make sure your computer can handle it as it is more demanding than XP, but if you have a decent enough computer it will purr like a kitten.
Additional features include a DVD Movie Maker which allows you to transfer video straight to DVD and is one of the best encoders I have found.
Vista all the way =)

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up lots device ram. that's real. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the computer. Thats why there is not lots loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing not something. Vista is much extra like minded than XP than u think of that's. Vista hasn't any problem to me for a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already. Vista is swifter while beginning utility and commencing up the computer. some human beings evaluate XP because of the fact they're too used to XP or they're gamer. it form of feels vista is slower in video games by utilising 2-5 fps. No huge deal. VISTa!

Vista is prettier, overall, but some of the cool new aesthetics need a relatively powerful system/graphics card to really shine. There are some improved networking features and Vista makes certain things easier, but overall it isn't a dramatic difference from XP. XP is much more stable, as another user mentioned.
Ultimate adds some pretty pointless "gimmick" features, such as the ability to set a video as your desktop background. I don't see any reason to purchase Ultimate, or for that matter upgrade to Vista at all at this point in time.
Wait for the first service pack, at least :)

I think Vista offers more internet protection. It also has more automatic features that do their thing. I'm using it and I like it(Windows Home Basic). It is an improvement over XP in my opinion and I use both daily. I think the ones who are against Vista, do not like change.

its a more multimedia oriented windows. but as said, it's still not safe. (everyone was saying that when XP showed up). Vista's minimum hardware requirements are too important, it takes a very big part of your PC's resources and the list of compatibility is still restricted. So yes, as everybody said, wait for the next edition. Otherwise, Vista is REALLY REALLY fancy.

stay with XP if at all possible. Vista has way too many problems...plus it is slow and uses up a plethora of the computers resources.
