I am a bisexual high school student and am puzzled by this. Take for example notable "Christians" such as, say, Jerry Falwell. Falwell had openly opposed homosexuality, calling famous LGBT people "immoral". Also, Rev. Falwell lead the Moral Majority, a group that opposed everything I believe in. How can you call yourself a Christain when you call others immoral?
Not to offend anyone here, but I planned a party to celebrate his death.
I am active in many of my church's activities, however It is becoming more and more clear that my kind is unwelcome in the Christian scene. I even overheard some of my congregation discussing this topic: the phrase "there is no such thing as a gay Christain" came from one of the members I used to respect deeply.
I was recently Confirmed in my church but I wonder if I did the right thing. How can I be a Christain when my fellow church members refuse to accept me? Doesnt the Bible say to love your neighbor?

Please do no waste my time by copying and pasting the "anti-gay" verses. I have heard them over and over again, and after some education with the matter I now know that the infamous Leviticus passage does not refer to homosexuality but rather shrine prostitution.

Also, please know that there are no references to homosexuality in Sodom. Homosexuals in themselves were not the reason Sodom was destroyed, it was the sin of all people.
We are all sinners. So technically, we are all "Sodomites" (as I have been called various times). Everyone that ever walked this Earth was a sinner (excpet for Jesus Christ), and we all deserve to go to Hell for that. However, if we accept God into our lives, and ask for forgiveness, it will be granted. So, don't say that I will go to Hell just because of my orientation.

I am a Bisexual Christian too. I don't depend upon the approval of other Christians to guide me on what I should do, and where I should go, or what I should think. Almost all of them have it wrong anyway. I don't need the approval of "The Church" or "the world of men."
I am more concerned what God thinks of me.
Through this I have been shown by God what a Christian REALLY is; a person who trusts God above all else. What God promises I live by.
So while everyone else is concerned with sin and sinning, I have my eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). He keeps me out of trouble. He keeps me in focus, and that's why I am here. I help people to see the truth when they ask questions. I have become confident in His word because I study His word daily.
So it may be your chance to dive deep into the love of God. Sometimes I feel like a lone ranger for God. Someone who preaches good (the Gospel) and the truth of His word. You can do this too, if your heart is in it.

.... its okay to be openly opposed to homosexuality. its when they start telling them that it will send them to hell or saying they are the anti christ or that it is in the bible (where homo. is a sin) is when there is a problem. he should love the sinner and "hate" the sin is what should happen if he considers it a sin.
"there is no such thing as a gay Christain" and then there are no adulterist christians and those catholic priest(youknow) arent christians either right?.. you determine what you are and so thats that and yes the bible says that and lots of other things that are interpetable by us fallaible humans.
look into a bible quote saying a man shouldn't lay with another I think this could be their basis for saying such things but i dont know because i dont read the bible just look into it. I do know that the bible can be interpeted in different ways but it the meaning shouldnt be altered by all those who wish to take the same line different ways. this also goes both ways(depending on the reader)

The mormons poured millions into forcing through prop 8 in CA: to ban gay marriage. In August 2010 the court held that to be unconstitutional. On 15 June 2011 the San Francisco court upheld that decision because it violates the constitutional rights of citizens. On 7 February 2012 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck the California law again finding that the California state constitution banning same-sex marriage violated principles of due process and equal protection under the law. The court found that the ban violates equality laws to target a minority group and withdraw a right that it possessed, without a legitimate reason for doing so. Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California. The constitution simply does not allow for laws of this sort. It is now awaiting the Supreme Court verdict which is expected to uphold the early court decision. If that happens then gay marriage will become legal everywhere and that will be marriage and not civil partnership! In the UK The intolerance, bigotry and homophobia from Christians resulted in it being classed as a hate crime with severe sentences. It has led to the government framing legislation which if enacted will replace "Civil Partnership" with full marriage. The loving god works in mysterious ways.

Homophobes are all hypocrites. They are no better or worse (well, maybe they are) than we are. Jesus said that there were 2 great commandments:
1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, and all your soul. None of us are not even remotely capable of FULLY obeying this commandment. We are like Children to him that always break rules just to test them.
2) Love your neighbor a yourself. Basically the Golden Rule, do onto others as you would have them do unto you. While homophobes think that this is a choice of sexuality (which it is not), they are being hateful and judgemental, breaking one of the two great commandments.
As far as I am aware of, homosexuality isn't addressed here or in any of the 10 Commandments (maybe in the form of adultry, but thats do to no gay marriage mostly). I feel that e should put the Big 10 up for condemnable sins before w put up the other minor ones.
And to those idiots who don't call you a true Christain, the ony requirement is to know that Jesus loves you and to believe that he came down to save you personally from eternal damnation, and to love him in return and believe in him. If you believe that, not a single sin that you do can send you to hell (Even though I personally believe that you can be a Non-Christian and still go to heaven). Also they are not sinless regardless rather they think so or not, and they are judgmental bigots. If those people are not accepting of you and ridicule you because of one minor thing about you that you can not help, they were never you true friends or "church family". You are much braver than I am since I have yet to come out. Don't turn your back on God because of people like them.
Even if homosexuality is a sin (which I don't think it is), I think that God's anger will be far worse to their hatred to you than to your bisexuality.

First they were only saying what the bible says that such behavior is immoral just like you believing judging bevavior is immoral. But isn't it more moral and loving to tell someone you believe their behavior is wrong than to say nothing and let them suffer the consequences because you don't want to hurt their feelings? There are other people in your church who are also sinners That is what church is for. If there was someone there who was openly committing adultery would you not expect them to be confronted about it? Because someone does not accept your behavior does not mean they don't love you. Do not confuse these things. As a parent I may not like some of my children's behavior but I still love them. I love them enough to tell them when they are doing wrong. It also seems to be that you are refusing to accept people who don't completely agree with you.you are again confusing accepting your behavior with accepting you.Again there is a difference.

i myself does not discriminate against gays and lesbians. I consider myself a christian. I have often wondered why people are gay. Some people I feel are flamboyant and just want to make a statement and be gay in ways that are against all rules and this is something that maybe a demon has imposed into their bodies. But yet there are other people whom I have met and they seriously tried to not be gay by praying going to church and trying to date the opposite sex. but they just can't stop the feeling. these are the people that are the true gays and since demons and the devil has a way of making everything his own. being gay has been turned into a sin and the people who can not help the feelings for samesex have been labeled as sinners. I feel that GOD knows your heart and if you were in fact born into the wrong body. But just because it is something you were born with does not make it okay for you to still go out and have lots of sex. The same goes for heterosexuals. That is another reason gays are sterotyped. So I believe that if you were born with this sexuality then GOD knows if you chose to be this way then it is a sin because it is not the way of the father. So I feel if you have talked to GOD about it and he knows your heart then it is up to you and him. It is not just a gay lifestyle we consider a sin. it also goes for people who chose to be athiest and murders. It is a path u decide to take that makes it a sin.

Probably because our idea of what it means to be a Christian comes from Scripture. Where do you get yours from? The world?
God judged plenty of people immoral for the same things in the OT. Is God not a Christian? We judge as he judges and he judges that sexual immorality is evil and ought not be done.
You can be a Christian if you reject the world and accept Christ. But that means forsaking the world within you. That is why Jesus said that unless we take up our cross with him, we arent Christian, we arent saved, and are not on the right track.
Your idea of acceptance is that your friends and church family accept your lifestyle. One thing about being a Christian is being able to encourage others in their faith, set a good example, and not even put up stumbling blocks to hurt their faith. How can you encourage anybody in the faith when you are doing that which is immoral that Jesus reaffirmed not to do? Why should anybody listen to any speeches about becoming a Christian if youre not willing to do the things he said?
Yes Scripture teaches to love your neighbor, but not at the expense of your faith in God and stance against sin.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. -Romans 12:9
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. -2 Corinthians 10:5
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. -James 4:4
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. -1 Corinthians 10:21

Alot of Christians are very closed minded. I am a christian myself but i happen to be open minded. Homosexuality is a sin, but you shouldn't mistreat the homosexual, I believe that Homosexuality is a sin just like lying, cheating, and stealing. The church opens their doors to liars, cheaters and thieves and tell them they can be forgiven, but the homosexual cannot? If I were you I wouldn't care if i was excepted or what other people say, god has the last say so in everything. If your church doesn't understand or except you, you should find one that will, because you are right that isn't christian like for them to treat you differently and you want to be surrounded by christian like people.

Odd. You question sounds as though you assume it is a requirement to be gay in order to be Christian. I can't confirm your age or orientation, but I will accept that you are puzzled by many things.
If being a Christian entails doing what Christ did, or acting like Him, or sharing His mindset; then the question should read: How can people who profess to follow Jesus tolerate homosexuality?
If the people you hold as models of Christian life offend you so badly, what moves you to try to call yourself Christian?
Does a perfect God make an error in your case of gender?
What other teachings will you deny as binding in your case?
Do you want to accept the Bible, well..., except for that rude stuff in Deuteronomy and Romans?
Your party comment shows a serious lack of understanding of basic Christian beliefs. As does the " call others immoral" comment. I see Christ as setting a mark and requiring that we raise ourselves to that mark. You seem to see his standard as something that needs to be brought down to your level. If you're mature enough to ask these questions you need to be mature enough to accept the answers.
You confirmation seems to suggest two things. First, you lied to those that authorized your confirmation. I would think this would nullify the confirmation. Or second, your church doesn't require as high a standard for membership as your version of the congregation's discussion would suggest.
True, Jesus said "love thy neighbor",- show concern for him, help bear his burdens, share his grief, help him to see the truth. I read nothing of catering to the whims of sinners, reprobates, degenerates, liars, or the hopelessly confused.
Nor do I see " find a filthy thing and rub its filthiness all over you."
If you would follow Christ, then do so on His terms.
If you insist on mocking Him, don't worry about my wrath, worry about His.
Grins:)

The Bible also says homosexuality is a sin. If you are going to quote the Bible, please be prepared to hear ALL OF GOD'S WORD, not just what you want to hear. As far as judging, we are not to judge outside the body of Christ, but, inside, we must. Murder is a sin. Should we also allow murderers into the Body of Christ?
Haven't you read the Bible? If you have, you would already know what I am telling you. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9,10. Now, tell me what you think. Or, isn't that plain enough for you, either? You cannot willfully PRACTICE sin, and expect to belong to the Body of Christ. I don't know how you don't know it is wrong, if you say you are a Christian. Not only is homosexuality is wrong, but sex outside of marriage is wrong, gay or heterosexual, so if you're not guilty of one, then you are of the other. No difference. Because you said you are a high school student, and you are bi-sexual, so you must be having sex with males, and females. How do you think that it is right???
