A friend and I have been hearing rumors about a bill heading to congress about re-instating the draft. Does anyone know any details about this? Not to mention I had a friend who wanted to enlist after dropping out of school and she was told to lose weight. Could I get out of this for being too fat too? Not gonna lie - I'm a chunky chick- I hover around 200 lbs. Does anyone know any more?

I also have a pre-existing heart condition from birth and have a stent in my aorta. A friend of mine has a very similar condition, not to mention he is a bit on the chunky side too....

FYI - according to ABC.com the draft being considered would be for men AND women whether they were attending college, working, or whatever. Nice, eh?

draft = political suicide. There is no way they are going to reinstate it.

No need to worry about a draft, that will not happen for some time. There is no such a thing as to fat to draft as long as the person does not have a health issue other than their weight. They will work the fat off of anyone that is over weight. The military has the best weight loss program around. They will feed you just the right amount no more no less and they will run, march, and walk the weight right off your body.

Hey don't worry about being to fat to be drafted. The military has all sorts of plans that will make you drop those extra plans faster than you can say banana split!
You can start out each morning at 0500hrs with a light breakfast, ( a piece of fruit and some juice), a 4 or 5 mile run, then 1-2 hours of calisthenics, then off to lunch. For lunch, a couple pieces of fruit, juice, and a slice of "mystery meat". Then its off to a couple hours of classroom for all sorts of fun topics...such as advanced first aid/cpr, "your rifle, your friend" classes, then another 4-5 mile run with a pack on.
This program will drop the weight so fast you'll have to have suspenders just to hold up your pants!
But don't worry about being a "chunky chick", they military would love to welcome you in their front door.

Yep dont worry, sorry to tell you this but you dont even come close to the standars. If you were like maybe at most 8 pounds over wieght you could get a waiver to join because you could easily loose that during training. Theres not going to be a draft. You really should be concerned about your weight because you could develop a lot of health problems. Its not healthy being overweight, or socially correct like if you are looking for a job you could be discriminated.

You dont have to worry about the draft. BUT if it ever came back, males would have to be the ones worried. It would have to be WWIII for every able bodied citizen to get drafted...your sweating small stuff. The news wants to report things like this...........

But if there was a draft that would be a disgrace to try to aviod it like a lot of people would. As a woman you wouldnt need to worry about it but there is a difference between fat and a little thick....depending on your height.

They are only going to draft people that are young like 18 years old through some 20s. And you have to be in shape. Thats what my parents have told me. I am not worried I am 35 and a smoker so they wouldnt get to far.

I recently heard that approximately 70 percent of young people are not qualified for military service, and being overweight is the biggest reason. Not sure how the govt would deal with that if we started drafting.

Well, first of all, chicks won't be drafted. If they come out with a draft, it will be for young men. Still...regardless, you may want to drop a couple pounds.

I'm thinking of buying a new car. So, do you see a new car parked in front of my house?

Same thing here. Talk is cheap. Everybody does it all the time.
