Good deal, do if you can. The 8BA flathead was about the best of the flathead engines, not the most "traditional" looking, that would be the 59AB, but a bit better of an engine. If it runs, and is in good shape other than being a bit tired then you have a good deal. If the block has any cracks, then it's a bit different of a story. Cracks valve to valve are ok, but valve to cylinder are the bad ones. A flathead with cracks from valve to cylinder is going to need some work, and may not be worth it. Also, check to see if it isn't a Mercury engine, if it is then you have a real gem there since Merc's used the longer stroke crank, and those are very desirable.

A very good buy if the car is running and not a piece of junk. You can still part it out and get far more than your money back.

not worth what he says it is and if it original it could be a good buy. but they had problems with cracks and such and now you can find aftermarket blocks, heads and such. but if it is good shape i would buy it. the new blocks have changes in them to make them more reliable especially with higher horsepower. do the reseach online...

Yes! I would buy it on the spot. If I were selling it, I'd sell it for about 3-6,000 bucks. Especially if it still runs!
