Well, I am a sixteen year old guy. I've never had any job experience besides that of which I volunteered to work in a concession stand twice. Let's just say I never want to eat nachos again. I am a good student and have a 3.75 GPA. I don't want my job to interfer with my school, and I also don't want it to take too large of a chunk out of my free time. Should I get a job or not? There are some things I really want, and my dad CAN'T pay for it all...

If you're sixteen, then you're either a sophomore or a junior. At sixteen, there really aren't very many jobs available. You can't even be a cashier in some grocery stores. You'll most likely end up as a "courtesy clerk", which is a nice way of saying "that kid who bags the groceries".

If you're a junior, I'd really recommend that you suck it up & try not to splurge on stuff you want. Focus on your schooling because junior year really is the hardest. Weigh the pros and cons before making any decisions & remember, if you do get a job, you're going to need a work permit from your school and your parents' permission.

Good luck!

Absolutely. A part time job doesn't have to interfere with schoolwork or all your freetime. It will teach you time management, a valuable skill to have. It will help you to learn other important work skills and give you something to put on your resume later when you are looking for a full time job. And, when you start getting paid, I am guessing that you won't want to give up the feeling of satisfaction that you get from being paid for a job well done as well as the freedom to buy some things for yourself.

Would you like to hold a valuable position someday? You will make more responsible decisions after you have had to make hard ones like:
What job won't interfere with my schoolwork?
How much must I work to get the things I want now?
What gratification will I have to delay to meet my other goals like schoolwork.
Should I take the best paying job or the one that gets me closer to my hoped for career?
I hope you keep the schoolwork up and make a good decision on getting a job.

This is what it is like to sit at the grownup's table!

Yes, get a job. It may be a menial one, but it will give you the experience of building a work ethic. A plus is that when you get out of school, you will have some job experience to offer, and hopefully a good reference, as well.

Maybe you could get a weekend job that way you can pay for the things you want and still have some free time.

It's probably better to start now and not wait. Besides having a job can get things you really want if your willing to work for it.
But remember your under 18 so your supposed to get a
work permit for most jobs.

Yes, get a job; but tell who ever your employer is that you are still in school and you can't be working all of the time! I'm sure he will understand! And if she dose'nt then maybe you weren't supposed to get a job@

Um, don't do it! I started working when I was 16 and have worked ever since...if I had it all to do over again I wouldn't get a job unless I ABSOLUTELY had to.
