Sweet wine like Sherry it is a sweet fortified aperitif - if you are looking for an alcohol free replacement try an equal amount of white grape juice or white cranberry - or you could use any sweet liquor depending on the taste and use in the recipe. Good Luck!

Marsala is the name for a wine produced in the region surrounding the Italian city of Marsala in Sicily. Marsala wine has Denominazione di origine controllata, or DOC, status.

While the city's natives sometimes drink "vintage" Marsala, the wine produced for export is universally a fortified wine. Marsala wine was originally fortified with ethyl alcohol to ensure that it would last long ocean voyages, but it is made that way now due to its popularity in foreign markets.

It's a kind of wine from Italy.... if you google it you'll find a lot of info about it, including some recipes and some cooking information, so you can get some ideas of what to use as a substitute. Apparently it's very sweet so you can probably substitute with a sweet white wine.... 3 tablespoons won't make a whole lot of difference in the taste....

Mmmm... it's really good, that's what it is.

No, but seriously, Marsala is actually wine, and is commonly used to make a sauce in various recipes including meat dishes (Veal, Chicken or Beef Marsala) usually served over pasta.
