Could you describe your approach to practicing? I seem to play the major scale (i.e. in 3rds, 4ths) to keep in interesting. I do this out of habit to keep my dexterity. Do you keep a ledger and track what you with goals written down? Is practicing different for each person or are there commonalities that every guitar player does?

You probably wouldn't want to try it the way I do it. I keep guitars all over the house and pick 'em up whenever I get bored or distracted. My wife finally started hanging them up on the wall in self defense, but I still lay them all over the place. I've got two behind me as I write this. One is a nylon string classical style, and one is a little three quarter size that I use to try out beginning pieces for my students. If it sounds good on that one, then I know that they will enjoy playing it.

You can keep a ledger, you can keep a date with your guitar, you can use a progressive method, winding up and winding down the way a jogger does, as long as you do it every day and make it into the best habit you ever started in your life.

My approach to practising? Pick it up and play whenever I feel like it. Outof deference to my wife, I have a music room (we converted our garage) so I can go in there whenever I want to play.I'll play along with CDs , work out songs, write my own material, whatever. I'm not as organised as some seem to be, but then I don't see the point. Hope this helps.
