There is absolutely nothing you can do to help change the effects of global warming. You would have to reduce the sun's output, and this is humanly impossible.

Studies of solar output show that the increase in temperature over the last century match the increase in solar irradiance almost exactly. Temperature rise does not match the rise in atmpospheric CO2 even remotely. The sun is directly responsible for at least 80% of the warming in the last century, and probably indirectly responsible for the remaining 20%.

This is awesome.

You ask how you can change the effects of global warming...

And the answers you get are:

1. Learn more
2. Plant a tree

And we're going to spend billions of dollars doing just that.

Yes there is. Trade your car for a hybrid car. And then join a group that advocates that all cars and vehicles be a hybrid type. Advocate that the government pass a law that says all vehicles must be a hybrid type by 2015. When all vehicles are hybrids, then all the exhaust pollution from vehicles idling in traffic jams will be shut off. This massive exhaust shut down will also cut off the waste of fuel that was burned during engine idling. Without the burning of fuel during these traffic jams everyday, the CO2 emissions will be reduced dramatically everyday.
Second - join a group that advocates more forest fire control. All these forest fires every summer produces CO2 that makes global warming worse. They really should do more about forest fire prevention. Forest fires also make air pollution.

Join the Amish.

Their "carbon footprint" is essentially zero.

No electricity
No gasoline engines
No birth control
Plenty of inbreeding... (with genetic defect diseases that scientist thought were only possible in lab rats due to their inbreeding...)

But even they are hypocrites... they'll take thier kids to a modern hospital and let the government spend tens of millions of dollars trying to deal with the genetic defects... (your tax dollars at work.. they don't have the money to pay for it)

A couple simple things you can do. Reduce the use of petroleum based products. Replace all your incandescent bulbs. Many countries except the U.S. have set a deadline for the stop of incandescent bulbs being sold in their country. Write letters to your Representative. California residents are vocal on their opinions and Arnold has had to respond. He was not the least bit environmental until he became Governor and learned the truth.
