I am allergic to pretty much all animal dander, but from the two reactions I had, one from the rabbit and one from a gerbil, the rabbit reaction caused my throat to swell shut in less than 5 minutes. I was at a pet store when it occured. We don't have any pets.

YES. Not me personally, but my father is severely allergic to rabbits. He cannot enter petstores or homes with rabbits in them, as when he is around rabbits his throat begins to close up.

Once, he was eating dinner with a business associate who had a pet rabbit in the house and my dad's throat began to swell just from sitting next to this guy.

It's weird and uncommon, but it does happen!

Yes, I have a friend that works at a Vet clinic & has the same problem when she holds any pet with hair.....luckily she is the receptionist! If you are allergic to pet dander, any pet can cause this reaction. I also would suggest getting an Epi-Pen for your safety. Good luck!

My mother is anaphalixis but not to rabbits themselves. If you are not allergic to dogs, cats, other animals w/ dander then you are probably not allergic to rabbits. It is the bed of stuff that line the cage you are allergic to. My Mom found this out the hard way. Try buying the hypoallergenic stuff for them, its expensive but worth it if you don't want to get rid of your rabbits.

Not rabbits, but I used to be afraid of having this type of reaction from the smell of skunk. I used to be very allergic to it.

I have never heard of a rabbit causing that, guinea pigs and hamsters and mice, yes. It has something to do with fur and dead skin cells and feces in the boxes. But anything's possible.
