The last time I was in court was in 2003, and I did have to swear on a Bible.

Can't make anybody swear on a bible. At least in the US. I certainly will raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth however.

I have been to court, as a witness. Not only was there no Bible used, God was not mentioned in the oath. That was the same for everyone who was sworn is.

OK, I'll admit it. I'm nosy.
So what did you do that you're going to have to go to court over? Tell all.
About swearing on the the bible? I don't know.

In which country? In most you can affirm rather than swear on a bible.

Dang, I have always wanted to know this in case I got subpoenaed or something.
I'm thinkin' they don't make you do it, that you can make an alternative pledge of honesty. I do know that there was recently an issue of a Muslim woman wanting to be sworn in on the Kuran, so if she can do that, I don't see why atheists can't just say they'll be honest.

That's only in the movies or something now...
The Bible and Church has no place in Court and probably never will. They just make you do an oath....

I believe that everyone has to swear on the bible. But the newest one is to swear on the qu'ran. Many Muslims are protesting that they should have the right to swear on the qu'ran.
