A pitch shot is a shot hit from a distance shorter than you normally hit your shortest shot, and it is a shot you intend to land on the green and stay there. If you carry a lob wedge, and your full lob wedge is 80 yards, a pitch shot could be 60 yards. It could also be 10 yards over a bunker.

Its hit with a pitching wedge. It is the shortest shot hit. It can be hit from many ranges, like a little pitch when you are a couple inches of the green, or for some golfers, about 120 yards and in from there. It usually goes very high because this club has the most loft (besides the sand wedge).

You can hit a pitch with almost any club. It means you are hitting with an iron, but not at full swing. I hit pitches from about 20 yards to near 100. If close to the green with a lot of green, but not far off I like to pitch with my 6, 7, or 8 iron.
