some answerers here, actually most, seem to be avoiding the question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Anerw6fTJ4p5jWumBjtFO8Xsy6IX?qid=20070812182112AA0Pofx
WHY? are they really incapable of answering a very simple question? why is it that their answers are repetitive? where's the thinking mind among those answerers who avoided to answer the question?
(only very few have answered it)
NOTE: no rude answers.
and to atheists, please don't answer because you don't believe in what Christians believe, this question is not for you.

Arnon, how did you know! LOL! I, personally, love making them lose their patience actually, the same way they do with other people. and I am not doing this as a Catholic. I am so bored, and they are so frustrating.

AuroraDawn , to answer your question why I don't ask atheists, isn't obvious that I take atheists' views less seriously than I do Protestant's views? and take note, I DON'T take the Protestants views seriously AT ALL.

Simple answer for your other question. No religion wants to see one of their followers leave for another religion.

There are several major differences between the two. Catholicism relies on fear and intimidation. Catholicism says you are a sinner, period. You are already a bad person before you even walk through their doors. They look down upon everyone, including their devoted followers. You must go to confession because they know you've committed sins, and will continue to for the rest of your life. They are very strict, taking away from you any individuality you might have had.
Most protestant churches are much more relaxed, and rely on love and compassion. They present you with the information, and encourage you to keep coming back. But they don't look down on you, they see you as an equal, as a member of their congregation.
Catholicism uses it's own version of the Bible, too, which isn't recognized by anyone else. They put more faith in the men who wrote the Bible, whereas protestants put more faith in God.

Okay. Have you stopped beating your wife? Just answer yes or no.
I'm an atheist, but I will answer any question I wish. You probably aren't used to that.
Your question wasn't simple because it assumed that all were doing it (if any were). It's obvious you have no tolerance for Protestants, and I assume that the feeling is mutual. I think that you knew the answer to your question before you asked it. Maybe you don't lie to win, but you seem to like to intimidate. I don't know why you don't ask the question to atheists as well, because I'm sure we have issues with the Catholic religion...as we do with all religion...as well.

You were given answers there that suffice your question. Now some advice, one Catholic to another. You cannot convince with confrontation. People have their prejudices and all we can do is set an example and help when asked. If you try to force people to "understand you" you will only infuriate them, and that is not what you are trying to do is it?
Patience, Humility, Perseverance and Charity will get you further than insolence, pride, and anger.

I do not discourage anyone, but if asked my opinion, as a Christian, The Holy Bible says we are not to worship or create idols to worship or pray to. The Catholic Church is full of idols that they do worship & pray to. The Catholic Church has an idol of Jesus nailed to a cross that they prostrate themselves before and pray to. Jesus did not stay on that cross & Jesus is no longer on that cross. He is alive. The Catholic Church has an idol of Mary, that they prostrate themselves before and pray to. Mary was not divine, she was mortal; she did not remain a virgin for life. She and Joseph had seven children together after Jesus' birth. They have saints that they pray to and believe in equal to Jesus Christ and Almighty God. That is idolatry worship, which is against the laws of Almighty God & Jesus Christ found in the Old & The New Testament in The Holy Bible.
I DO suggest people get a KJV of The Holy Bible and read it. People will learn what is Christ-like and what is not. What is acceptable to Almighty God and Jesus Christ and what is not.
When people ask, most times, I give the appropriate scriptures found in The Holy Bible and let them read them for themselves. Then it is not "I" who is telling them anything, it is Almighty God and Jesus Christ's words telling them.

To learn about Catholicism is one thing. I have learned some of it over the years. What I have seen is a mix of things which Constantine allowed in order to get people into the church.
In the light of scripture, there are many rites, traditions and practices which are not correct within the walls of Catholicism. Many of these stem from the mix of pagan rites mixed in back in Constantine's day.
Over time, it appears that much of the Catholic practice has gotten farther away from scripture than they would readily admit. This is not to say that all Catholics are going to hell, as I know there are many who truly love and follow Jesus. Overall, though, I would say that as a religion it is closer to paganism than scriptural accuracy.

I didn't answer the last time but I will now. If you're a Protestant then you must know it is our duty to save you from a life of destruction. If we don't try, and you're lost,it will be on our hands. If we do try and you're lost, we are free of the responsibility.
I think if you make it clear that you don't want their opinion they will stop. You can do this in a Christian manner without being obnoxiously rude about it.

I very often find my head butted up against the brick wall of religious pride. This tends to get you pinned to a cross. Also, you cannot ask a question that you know the answer to. That is cheating as far as I'm concerned Baiting, I mean.
Thanks for the thumbs down. I'm Catholic btw
I'd pick Smiling Gal's answer.

Many protestants believe, as do I, that Catholicism downplays the saving grace of Jesus, and elevates people, human beings, making them saints to pray to. Mary, for example, was just a person, blessed indeed, but just a person, with sin just like everyone else. Jesus should be front and center, and Catholicism has a lot of religion mixed in which can clutter the main message-- that Jesus died for our sins, and belief in him is the key to salvation and eternal life.

The Best answer you got over there was formed as a question from "huffyb"
I wonder how long it will be before you christians are back to burning each other in the town squares.
You all preach peace love and tolerance like 1970s hippies but really wish each other would all go die.
Why not just drop your hatred for each other and become atheists.
