Jesus spoke Aramaic with his apostles and in that language it means a massive rock.

Debunk of speculations of Peter mean little pebble or stone is wrong. What happen to the bible only authority can’t take the truth about Peter been the Pope and the Jesus funded his church on Peter.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, 13 and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.

I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. 14 Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Peter is derived from petros, which means rock.

Like the only rational answer (so far) said, the *equivalent* in Greek, Petros, which is used in the Gospel, is indeed Rock. "Peter" is English, so of course it's not in a Greek dictionary.

However, there can be distinctions made. See the link below for an extreme argument that Peter was never Pope (and neither was anyone else), and that the Rock on which the Church is built is actually Christ. Others would prefer to make the Rock = Peter's faith, or his declaration of faith.

P.S. Where did you get the idea it was LITTLE rock?

Mat 16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against her.

Peter - Petros - a (piece of) rock
Rock - Petra - a (mass of) rock (literally or figuratively): - rock.

The Church was built on Christ, Peter was just a piece of it.

The word is Petros, meaning 'rock'. Could be a little rock, could be a big rock. A similar word is 'Petra', which also means 'rock'.
