I'm 15, and I'm saving up for my first car. I don't know anything about cars other than driving. This is what I want in my car:

good mpg
leg room
at least 4 seats (5 would be best)

What kind of car would you recommend $3000 and under? And do you know where I can buy it in 5 months?

Get a early- to mid-90s Toyota Camry sedan with the 4 cylinder engine. It gets great mileage, they have a good amout of room (5 seats), and they are extremely reliable. Also, their style still looks decent for how old they are.

You might look for a car that is in the family or a neighbor is selling where you have some verifiable history.

The most reliable used cars under $3,000 would be the rear wheel drive V-8 full size GM and Ford cars. They seem to out last the little 4 cylinder cars.

Good Luck!

I'd get something small if you want good MPG. The following cars are all good vehicles you should be able to find at your price that get good mpg, have good legroom up front and are 4 seaters (5 if you don't mind your backseat folks being a little cramped).

Honda Civic
Dodge Neon
Toyota Corolla
Hyundais
Suzukis
etc.

1997 Nissan Sentra. Thats the car I have. 4 cylinder, 28 mpg city. good leg room, 4 seater, automatic. reasonably cheap. $2500 dollars, maybe?? another good buy is a 1992-1998 Buick Lesabre. They are big inside, lots of leg room. Good gas mileage 26 mpg highway, excellent motors, run great.
