why is it that when a person is interested in learning Catholicism, you discourage that person?
why don't you WAIT UNTIL YOUR OPINIONS ARE ASKED?
I'm really wondering.
this is a serious question, please no rude answer. thank you.
(maybe not all Protestants do this, but those who do, can you please answer the question? and PLEASE, NO BIBLE-QUOTING.)

can you please stop the sermon? answer the question. no more parroting what you heard from your pastors or anyone who's equally ignorant of the Catholic Church. ANSWER THE QUESTION!

I can see now that most of the people here have avoided the question. avoiding to answer the question wouldn't convince anyone you're right. this is not all about winning, you know. don't lie to win. keep that in mind.

Protestants will try anything, remember they exist to protest. It is in their nature to say evil and lies about the Church started Jesus himself. Also remember the Devil is active with those who consider themselves "saved".

Interesting Question, but I'm not real clear about the what are you so afraid of part. I am not protestant or catholic, but the only reason I can think of of a religious group deterring someone from another faith is because they don't agree with the teachings of the particular faith in question. I feel that if religion is important to you, you should research the religion and see for yourself what it's all about. I myself studied world religion for several years and did not find the teachings of the catholic church to be based on the scriptures. They have adopted several traditions of man over the centuries and have turned them into sacred doctrine. The Protestant churches have done similar things. Most religions that I studied seemed to adopt traditions and customs in order to please current members or to gain new members. Do you think that the scriptures should be changed or adjusted to fit the doctrines of the church or the lifestyles of it's members? If someone cannot support what they are teaching from the Holy Bible then I wouldn't want to go to their church. But that's just me.

I am a Protestant and have never discouraged anyone from learning about ANY other religion including Catholicism. A person's choice of religion is just that....that person's choice. My only problem was a personal incident where a priest told me I would not go to heaven if I weren't Catholic!! I don't hold a grudge against the Catholic religion because of this. I have many Catholic friends. I just think this particular elderly priest was mislead about what it takes to get into the kindom of heaven. Maybe he was ill, I don't know.

I was born and raised Catholic, and am now a Born Again Christian, following the Pentecostal beliefs.
My answer is not intended to be disrespectful, but to help you understand my experience and opinions.
Now,to answer your question. The Catholic Church has many man made rules and beliefs. Here are a few reasons Prostentants don't agree with the Catholic Doctrine.
The Catholic faith doesn't preach that one has to ask Jesus personally in their heart and ask for forgiveness of sins.(Salvation) They don't preach that you can have a personal relationship with God through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Church doesn't teach the people that they should read the Holy Bible everyday and know God's Word. That's one of the ways God speaks to us.
They don't preach or teach the power or the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that empowers his people, the church, to do Gods will.(That is to Evangelize to man about Salvation)
Confession of sins should be to God and not a priest. Prayer should not be repetitious,(10- Our Fathers and 10- Hail Marys) it should come from the heart and spoken.
God's not deaf. When you say Lord hear our prayer. God knows what your needs are before you ask him,but He still wants you to ask Him.
"JESUS is the ONLY INTERCESSOR" No one comes to the Father except by ME.(JESUS)
Not His earthly Mother Mary,or the patron saints.
We, the church of believers are Gods saints.
There isn't a pergatory. There was a paradise, a place where all the good people who died were, before Jesus ressurection. There is just Heaven or Hell.
You can not pray the dead into Heaven, they must be saved. (That is to ask God for forgiveness of sin and accept Jesus in their hearts.
There isn't mortal or venial sins. Sin is sin.
God is a Holy God,and won't have sin in His presence. But,we can ask Him for forgiveness and He will.

For goodness' sake, fish/lhalmiut/fish, if it's Holy Communion you want, then convert already. You would be most welcome.
My apologies, tur b, but he's made this point at least a dozen times or more in the last couple of weeks, I felt it was time someone extended him an invitation.

I don't discourage people from becoming catholic, I think you are generalizing by saying all protestants are this way.

I can't answer for everyone and honestly I no longer have any strong religious leanings. but I believe there seem to be a lot of manmade rules and laws in the catholic religion that don't seem to have any actual basis in the bible. or so I've been told.

Bible believing Christians hate to see anyone move towards Catholicism. Read FOX'S BOOK OF MARTYRS and you may understand.
Benedict XVI recently re-affirmed the positions and dogma of Vatican II Council of 1964. In that Council and it's teachings, Catholics have condemned Protestants to hell.
Perhaps the keys to the Kingdom are not Peter's at all.

Jesus told his followers to pray directly to G-d. He did not intend to found a big Church heirarchy -- he was appalled by the corruption in the Jewish church of his time.
Jesus would not approve of the insulating layers of priests, bishops, archbishops, cardinals, pope, saints, that are present in Catholicism.

Hey, you think that Christians outside the Catholic Church don't have the full truth. Well, I don't think Catholics have the full truth, therefore, I would visit with someone considering joining the church.
