what percentage tip should you leave at the salon?

15-20% of the cost of the service for the stylist. If an assistant washed your hair, then tip him/her $1-2.

It depends on the circumstances of your stylist, but I definitely do not agree with the 15% votes. The girls who work for salons owned by others actually don't get a whole lot of the cost.. My stylist takes so much time and does an amazing job on me. For the $45 that the cut costs, she only gets $15! My old stylist actually owned the salon so I guess that is a little different, but then again, she has to suck up the overhead costs. I usually tip about 25 - 30%. I mean, they are making you look and feel beautiful, and they're (the good ones) artists! It's not something you do every other week. Loosen up the purse strings people! Just like when you go to a restaurant, you should factor tip in as part of what the whole experience costs.

The same as you do at a restaurant, about 15%. Up to 20% for GREAT service, only 10% or less for poor service (or rude stylist/one who doesn't listen gets nothing).
Please tip. Most of us really do work hard and want you to look your best. We can only do as much as you allow us, and we'd like your help in telling us what you want and what you DON'T want.

Yes it is right to tip. The owner of the salon I go to is also an old school friend. Sometimes she does my hair, sometimes one of the stylists do it. But I tip both of them the same. Cissie
