Optometrist pressured me to see surgeon instead of fitting me for reading glasses. Told me new prescription wouldn't help because I have cataracts. She also said it would be 3 years before insurance would cover surgery because cataracts were not bad enough. Without asking, she wrote an e-mail to the surgeon and would have sent it if she had my phone number. She finally wrote a prescription but never let me look through the lens prescribed. The only explanation I can think of for her behavior is that she has a financial incentive to send this surgeon patients. I am really uncomfortable with what happened and am considering reporting the incident to the state medical board. I see well except for eye strain when I read. She prescribed prism for the reading glasses to eliminate strain. Optician told me eye strain is not related to cataracts. Prism helps eyes converge. I have a one diopter change in my rt eye since June 2005. I plan to see optholmologist about cataracts.

The kickback thing is illegal, also not nice. But if the first guy tells you that he gets that, then is it OK?

Eye part: The Rx won't correct your vision enough, so go see the surgeon...but the insurance won't pay for it because the cataracts aren't bad enough.....means to me that they're not a factor at all. You do have a complex Rx with prisms and things....

Seek out another optometrist and see him/her without this history. Get an unbiased opinion.

Also, you don't HAVE to get surgery. You can get cataracts done any ol time. Some people wait till they are blind in both eyes before even considering it. That's a long time to live with cataracts and being fairly blind all the while.

You can also get a second cataract surgeon's opinion. I'd not say anything going in other than an eye checkup because you have this Rx and with prisms and...

The worst ...out a little $
Maybe they'll all agree.

I think that they don't or shouldn't recommend cataract surgery until the patient reaches a point where he just can't stand the vision symptoms anymore.IT IS HIS EYE.

Take your time.....

Illegal for kickbacks and highly unlikely that she is getting one.

She has told you your new prescription will not improve your vision so if you were complaining about the quality of the vision, that is why she suggested a surgical referral.

BTW, an opthalmologist is a surgeon, so if you are going to see the surgeon about the cataracts why are you complaining about your optometrist suggesting that you see one?

No, it is not legal for physicians to offer kickbacks... I sympathize with your condition....I am hearing of remarkable improvements in ocular health with this extract...

I have heard of sensational improvements with ocular diseases with StemEnhance .... a natural stem cell inducer..

StemEnhance™ is a breakthrough, natural botanical extract that supports wellness by inducing the body's bone marrow to naturally increase production/release of stem cells. It is the very first product on the market from the latest phytoceutical product category called “stem cell enhancers”. Recent scientific developments have revealed that stem cells derived from bone marrow travel through the body, and act to support optimal organ and tissue function.
Stem cell enhancers are products that support the natural role of adult cells. As you age, the number and quality of stem cells that circulate in your body gradually decrease, leaving your body more susceptible to injury and other age-related health challenges. Just as antioxidants are important to protect your cells from “free radical” damage, stem cell enhancers are equally important to support your stem cells in maintaining proper organ and tissue functioning in your body.

Adult stem cells are predominantly formed in the bone marrow. and can literally change into any type of cell in the body throughout life. Adult stem cells are released from the bone marrow into the circulation of the bloodstream to seek out problem areas, then renew and restore those areas.

StemEnhance™ is a blend of two compounds extracted from an aqua botanical (water plant) called AFA. One extract supports the release of stem cells and the other supports the migration of stem cells out of the blood into the tissues. The National Institute of Health has recently stated that Cardio-Vascular health is measured by the number of Stem Cells circulating in the blood. One Gram of StemEnhance™ equals 2 capsules which triggers 25-30% or 3.5 million additional circulating stem cells according to research.Traditional health supplements nourish existing cells. They do not create new cells . Science has just recently discovered that the only system known that actually rebuilds the body is your own adult stem cells. Adult Stem Cells…. Rebuild, Renew and Rejuvenate.
