I do believe respect needs to be earned. I know that there are Christians who say awful things about gays. I'm a Christian who has always had gay friends and a few family members. I love them. That's what Jesus said to do. Even if He didn't, I would still love them. I don't know anyone who is perfect, especially myself. I don't have to love everything about a person to love that person. I have never agreed with someone 100% of the time. So, either you accept them as they are or you stay away, because it's really hard to change people. I choose to accept them, help them if possible, teach them if I can and love them. I let God decide what their sins are and how they should be judged. We are all sinners no matter how nice or respectful we might seem.
So, if someone is not worthy of your respect...don't give it. If there is a belief that you disagree with...then disagree. Just don't let it turn to hate. Turn away and be the better person.
God Bless.

I believe that in any intellectual forum (of which I hope this is one) people may have disagreements but express their differences with a degree of respect and civility for the other person's point-of-view and/or belief. I have personally seen too much hatred proclaimed under the banner "I-am-right-and-you-are-wrong"; "I'm-on-God's-side", etc.
You say that you are gay. That's fine for you. Isn't it sad that someone feels it's necessary to proclaim their sexual orientation? Is it essential for another to shout that they're heterosexual? Or bisexual? Or non-sexual--not sure that's possible (smile).
We may not agree in each other's lifestyle, belief, or religion but we need to respect each other both because of our differences and our similarities. Life would be extremely boring if we could all enjoy ice-cream but only could get vanilla. We need our differences to make life interesting. We can maintain our differences, however, without distain or hatred for another. I'm not sure I'm expressing this well but I hope you and others get the idea.
Getting "Best Answer" or "thumbs-up" or "thumbs-down" for this is response is inconsequential and irrelevent. We are all on this planet together and need to get along.
May all be at peace.
John

It's "disrespect" darling. Not unrespect..but moving on..
It's also "turning the other cheek". It gives Christians a bad name when over the top Christians go around condemning people to hell. It gives gays a bad name to go around hating Christians and disrespecting them. If you want to give gays a bad name--then by all means, disrespect me.
I may be beautiful and uncleaver..but at least I'm not asking strangers on the internet for permission to hate people.

Some beliefs do not deserve respect. Bigotry, for example. Bigotry is intolerance of people based on group identification.
If you want to lump all Christians into one group and disrespect us all, that’s your right.
I will base my opinion of your beliefs on your bigotry, not on the fact that you are gay.
Fair enough?

Againstwindandtide....you know better than that...
Christianity is filled with individuals...each having one or more area's in their life that they are in need of changing in order to be what God wants us to be....Only difference is, some of us are open about what we are not perfect about and others are not, and it's only by being around us does someone else have insight as to what we are NOT perfect in.
We see our imperfections every time we read the Bible...Just as you or anyone else would. We are all works in progress.
Peace be with you :)

You can go a lot further than that, if you wish. A small organization of you folks could systematically report/violate all their posts into oblivion, as they're currently doing others

Even though some Christians don't respect your beliefs, you should not disrespect theirs because it lowers you to a level of ignorance and hate.

Nope. Unfortunately we Christians respect your gaity.
There are some poser "Christians" who might give you some static. You can disrespect them if you want. But us biblical Christians know that you're no worse a sinner than any of the rest of us.

Have you read the postings of the "nice" PC anti-christians (they trumpet there tolerance to all peoples and views) they mock,*****,blaspheme, tell christians they are idiots.Being a nice person isn't approving those you like and agree with and curse and mock those you don't.What use to be considered a nice person was someone that was friendly and kind to everyone (today that person would be mocked as "naive, and ignorant").Think.Does attacking christians because you disagree with them make you a "nice" person?

The 'nice' people are idiots who have belief systems that aren't worthy of respect but who seem to feel the need to have respect.
Usually they have their tact filter the wrong way around.
