My little sister did this when she was a baby and the doctor told my mom and I that it was perfectly fine and nothing was wrong with her physically or developmentally. She was just prissy!

could be short achilles tendons, or just idiopathic toe walking. the dr probably didn't notice because she doesn't walk for the dr. you will need to mention it at her next check up, my daughter was /is a toe walker, she walks high on her toes, and was doing this 60-70% of the time. we were referred to an orthapedic specialist. i do stretching excersises with her all the time now, and her toe walking is only about 10% of the time now... discuss it with the dr, the quicker this is taken care of the better. good luck, also if she does have short tendons, the backs of her legs may hurt after a busy day or she may want you to carry her on long walks...

I would bring it up at the next doc's visit... constant toe walking can signal several things- such as shortened tendons in the calves, a neurological problem such as mild cerebral palsy, a sensory processing difficulty to textures, or it can be an early indicator of autism. Some babies just love walking on their toes, but this is not the normal flat-footed walk of toddlers. Mention this to the pediatrician so that they can rule out other behaviors which coincide with CP, sensory integration, or autism, and so he can check the flexibility of the calf tendons.

Yes, my girlfriends daughter did that my daughter never did, she eventually grew out of it but not till 3 (she even did it with shoes on), she talked to her ped and he just said keep telling her to walk on her feet she would do it for a minuet then right back on her toes, the kid has calves of steel now lol. it will not cause any damage just keep on her about walking right and wait..

I wouldn't worry at this point. I would mention it to her physician at the next appointment. If the child is delayed in other ways it could be a sign of neurological problems. It is one of the signs of autism BUT only if the child is showing other developmental delays usually. It is very common for "normal" children to start out walking this way.

My son has always done this, and still does this anytime he isn't wearing shoes. (he's 11 now). As a baby, someone told me it meant he was developmentally challenged, but that's not true, since he's actually gifted. I think some kids just start out that way, and keep doing it as a habit.

I think it is a useless byproduct of evolution. Something like apes walking around on all fours. It would all go away, and she would walk normally in time, hopefully. There is a Turkish family that walks on all fours...
She might just be feeling like being tall...

It is a simple fix, buy a pair of good ole stiff high top training shoes and put them on her...she will have to walk flat.

I know a GROWN man that still does this, it's okay, just put shoes on her and she'll be forced to step correctly.

Its just because thats how she's learned to walk. Put shoes on her and keep them on. It will force her to walk on her soles.
