I am NOTHING like my mother, and not much like my father, either.

To some extent, I think this was a conscious decision, as I saw her make her own life hard through the choices she made. I also consciously resisted her efforts to mold me into what she wanted me to be, because it felt as though she was trying to force self-destructive patterns into my behavior that I'd seen backfire on her a million times.

So yeah, it's possible to dodge a negative legacy from one or both of your parents, so long as you make a concerted effort to do so.

I am looking a little more like my mother. I have not really started to become like her though. My sister is like my mother and my brother is like my father. Maybe there is no one left for me to be like? LOL

I find myself saying certain things my parents say/have said. Some of us only inherit a little of our parents. On the other hand, if you were to see one of my sisters, you'd think she was my mother's twin! It's sick, really!
