Keep in mind that Jesus was preaching to Jews before the cross. At the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for all the sins of all the believers. Our forgiveness is complete, it is unconditional.

According to the Gospels, it's pretty much impossible for anybody to get to heaven. There's a very interesting video on Youtube.com about it.
