no car is worth 15 grand, except maybe an antique muscle car or rolls-royce

I don't think any car is worth more than $5000

I have a few suggestions for you below:

I recommend either Lexus (made by Toyota) or Infiniti (made by Nissan). I like the Infiniti J30 the most, which only comes with an automatic.

The Lexus ES250 may be a better choice for you since it's slightly better on gas. It is basically a Camry with more features, and it is very rare to find one without an automatic.
(newer versions are called ES300)

A four-door Acura Integra may suit your needs as well.

A Geo/Chevy Tracker is also good for you but it's not a sedan (it's actually not American either; it's made by Suzuki)
Suzukis are worth a look; they also make sedans including the Chevrolet Metro (again made by Suzuki) or also the Suzuki Aerio sedan.

You could get a Rolls-Royce form the 70's or 80's for under 15 large

You may also want to consider buying a certified pre-owned vehicle. These are actually reconditioned to new-car standards by the manufacturers. The only companies that do not have this program are Mitsubishi and Kia, but you don't want their cars anyway.

The only car I'd spend 15k on is the Lotus Elan, but that is stick-only and not available with an automatic and also not a sedan

If you want a new car for under 15 grand, I can guarantee you it will not have much for performance, but I would recommend a Hyundai Sonata or Kia Spectra. They both have good warranties, look nice, and offer automatic transmissions.
You may also want to look at the Suzuki Aerio, Toyota Yaris, and Nissan Versa. I sat in a Versa at the Chicago auto show and I was really impressed with the quality and room of the interior. It was a really nice little car for only being 14 grand.

Honda fit or Nissan versa are both really good. stay away from that little Toyota thing, but the corolla is good. the chevy aveo is a Korean daewoo. even the Koreans won't drive them.
others have said by a used car instead, and that is good advice. used corolla or nissan sentra, or even something larger like a honda accord. some of those little cars have so little power you will not be able to make it into the mountains, or even over some really high bridges.
do not spend the whole 15k just because you have it

$15,000 wont get you much new , at least with power and room , for 15,000 I would recommend the dodge caliber . roomy and sporty , non American tho , you are limited to a small Toyota like a scion or corolla , maybe a Honda civic . again small and no room come wiht that price tag . I would go with a 2002 , 2003 lincoln towncar with low miles , lots of room , very dependable , and for a big car , gets 18 to 25 MPG .. I have a 98 with 130,000 miles and have had no problems at all , rides like a dream and fits anything in it

I'd have to agree with the Golf, but I'd go for a certified pre owned Golf. some of the most stolen cars are Camry, Corolla, Acord and Civic. Your insurance will be lower with a golf and the pre owned warranties are extremely good especially on program cars (cars that are leased and returned yearly.

Spend about 6000 on a usable used car and save the rest. You're going to need it. Spending 15K on a new car right after graduating is about the worst thing you could do.

hundreds of cars out there. Shoul dbe able to get something brand new. Toyota is in my opinion best bang for the buck. But hey go drive em all see what you can get. No real way to tell you what you should buy. Camrys are fantastic though.

A new Toyota Corolla, or a certified pre-owned Toyota Camry. Can't go wrong with that.
