Playing in 109 degree heat is way too much for long pants. Do you agree?

While I agree with you, it seems unlikely that this will ever happen (or at least any time in the near future). The PGA tour is not only steeped in tradition, but is very proud of that fact.

Changes to things like dress code go directly against some of the old, unbending values that those in charge of the tour hold so near and dear.

To look at it another way - the traditions of the PGA tour are very much the identity of the tour, and to change them without first choosing a new way to represent themselves to the world would leave them lost.

Why don't baseball players wear shorts? Everybody in slo-pitch rec softball leagues wear shorts! Baseball should get with the times.

PGA TOUR players used to wear a coat and tie to play in tournaments. Now they can wear glorified T-shirts and thin khakis that aren't any hotter than shorts.

I personally play in shorts. But, I do have to respect the PGA for sticking to their guns and not letting current attitudes affect their rule book.

Because golf, much like tennis, is stuck in the past. Wimbledon requires players to wear all white. There are some plaers I definitely wouldn't want to see in shorts (are you listening, John Daly?) but it wouldn't hurt anything. It would make them more comfortable, which would result in better golf in the long run.

its obvious the tour wants a professional look. i dont see why they shouldnt wear shorts, but they are stubborn about these kinds of things.

p.s. there was one incident at a us open where a guy decided to wear shorts one day. he was scared to death about what they would do. way to be a rebel, wear shorts? whatever. :)

I have wondered that, but it's a business I guess and have to keep a professional atmosphere.

PS: do you really want to see John Daly in shorts, ha ha
