no not really..earth has been heating and cooling for thousands of years..and we just now have a name for it..besides God is the only one with enough power to change the earth..humans can contribute but we can't really do it...this is just my opinion

I have no idea where your navy buddy gets his info. or what his education level is, but NASA scientists have conducted their weather studies/tests and are quoted as sayng it's a real problem-in several science-based magazines.. Also, there are scientists from other countries that have no doubt according to their tests/studies that say it's a problem. The overall degree change is small, compared to our standards (I think someone else said two degrees in the last century), but it does affect our climate. Our weather is unpredictable in the short run, but England is already concerned about changing climate. As the ice melts in the north, all that freshwater is being dumped into the ocean which changes the saline content, which affects the Gulf Stream. The UK islands-England, Scotland and Ireland-are some of the first countries to get worked up about it. Even though Tony Blair backed the president up about everything else, he disagreed with him on this. I'm not sure what he did but even now, the president has admitted it and has taken some small token gesture toward the problem-Enough to admit there's a problem, which POes the Conservative party but is too small for the Democratic party...so they're still POed about it.
A common mistake I've noticed a lot of peop[le make is thinking this is some political US thing. But, this is world wide and plenty of other countries are involved. IE-India, China, England, Ireland, Scotland-most of the European countries, etc...

It's interesting that your buddy is skeptical of global warming, very few meteorologists and climatologists are.
Those that are skeptical tend to be erring on the side of caution and don't dismiss global warming but say we need more information before comitting ourselves one way or another.
As a meteorologist your buddy will be very aware of the immense amount of scientific data and ongoing research programmes that supports the theory of manmade global warming. He'll also be only too aware that nobody has come up with an alternative explanation and that to date the findings supporting global warming have been shown to be factual and accurate.
Personally I do beleive in it, without wishing to blow my own trumpet I'm a climatologist so perhaps better placed to comment on global warming and have longer experience than your buddy.
It would be interesting to know the reasons why he doesn't beleive in global warming, perhaps if you get a minute you could add some further details.

Your amazing not exactly original ponderings will not affect Global Warming in the slightest .
this is getting very boring ,don't you see when you type this question ,that hundreds of people say the same thing ,
why don't you check out what everybody keeps saying ,over and over again ,day after day ,and it wont cost you 5 points ,
I think ,this is just a form of self gratification ,and all you want is for some body to agree with you ,and there will be so you can sleep good tonight ,
not like the 150.000 people that die each year due to Global Warming

You can download a document called "Facts and fictions about climate change" from this web page: http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk/page.asp?id=4761
Here's a quote from Professor David Read:
"People should not be misled by those that exploit the complexity of the issue, seeking to distort the science and deny the seriousness of the potential consequences of climate change."
"The science very clearly points towards the need for us all - nations, businesses and individuals - to do as much as possible, as soon as possible, to avoid the worst consequences of a changing climate."

Too much uncertainty in the data supplied regarding global warming.
As a natural occurrence as part of the earth's frequent change of climate, yes.
Whether we are causing it, very debatable;
at this point, unlikely.

I can't believe what I'm reading from some of you people. Scientist ain't sure, only god can change the Earth what are you on. When you deny global warming you are buying into corporate B.S. Virtually all top scientist agree its real. Only those with political pandering and corperate backing deny it. Corporations fear the effect of regulation and tax implementation that will damage their net profit. On the christian front, they think because the bible says man shall have dominion over the earth that they have the right do what they want. The majority of Christians don't recycle or do anything else for that matter concerning protecting the earth. Which is hard to understand because I think it shows disrespect ot gods creation. If you apply this logic to everyday life, then if you invite a christian into your home then they will eat all your food, take all your valuables, and pee on your toilet seat. Yes global warming is a natural cycle but not nearly at the rate and intensity that its going. Yes there is a lot of false info out there. Recycling paper and plastic is actually worse for the environment. Less energy is used to make a new plastic bottle than to recycle one, sad but true. I suggest watching Inconvenient Truth, The Corporation, Death of the Electric Car, and Penn & Tellers B******T series. After that then tell me your 100% possitive that Global warming isn't real. Remember its only been in the last few years that America has admitted that perhaps there is acid rain and yet its been known for 30 years.

it is both real and fake...
Both sides of the politicized "Global Warming" issue are using junk science to support their agendas.
Man is a very minor contributor to the global climate. That doesn't mean we have NO effect... but we don't have as much effect as some try to claim.
The "Global Warming" debate is actually pretty stupid. There are mor important issues related to the environment...
and (this is good...)
Taking care of the more important environmental issues would inherantly combat "greenhouse gas" emissions...

Everything else in nature is constantly changing, why would you expect the climate to stay the same?
If you mean that you're doubting humans as the main cause of global warming, it is true that even the scientists are not yet 100% sure.

If you receive gvmt grants to study global warming, then you know that the cause is man made.
If you study the science, then you know it's just normal climate activity.
