Do bike shops mark down their bikes by very much in the winter months? I'm in Illinois. I'm going to buy a road bike, and while I want one NOW, I can wait. Especially if I can get a good deal in say, December or January. Am I right in thinking that the 08's are hitting the sales floor now? Does that mean that any 07's that are left will be even cheaper when the snow starts to pile up? I guess I'm asking, when is the best time to get a good deal, and what kind of mark downs can a guy expect?

NOPE, Not winter, but NOW!!!!

This is the best time of year to get last years model as new bikes hit the showrooms around September time.

This is when they try and clear old stock.

As for mark downs??? thats between you and the shop, ask for extra goods rather than discount, (it costs the shop less but, is more value to you)

Good Luck mate.

Sometime over the next few months might be your best chance to get a deal. Right now, at least in my area (Upstate NY) they're starting to clean out the '07 inventory to make room for the '08's. In December, they might have some X-Mas bargains, too. Most shops offer a free 30-day tune-up, so if you do get one now, you'll have some time to get some miles in and get it tuned before the season ends. There's a shop in my area that offers 1 year of free tune-ups with any new bike purchased.

That VERY MUCH depends on the shop. In other words, some do and some don't. In the shop where I work part time, we did mark down what few 07's we have left. But then, another shop may not bother to do that. It ALL depends on the shop.

I got a $700 mark down on a year old model bike. This is an excellent time to buy.

Go to Goodwill and Salvation Army stores and garage sales. Look for a good Japanese bike, Shogun, Centurion, Fuji, Specialized. Don't waste your money in a bike shop
