I don't think anyone should be drafted. Military service should be voluntary, if it exists at all.

But if there is a draft or draft registration, women should also be required.

Interesting Question. One which has come up now and again - always sparking a variety of positions. Setting aside the fact that there currently is no draft, let's look at some pro's and cons:

Pro's:

1. Women have been shown to have better / quicker hand eye coordination which would make them better pilots, (supposedly), - again a generalization.

2. Women want equality in everything - from joining the Boy Scouts to the Citadel - and for years they have served in the Military - many in combat zones as nurses and other Non-combatant positions - so here is a chance at "full equality"

3. So far as I know the Israeli Army has both Men & Women serving as full combatants, as does Mossad, and they are among the most eliete fighting foreces in the world.

4. Going back in history to the time even before the Pharoahs, women were not only spies but assains as well.

5. The Amazons were a society of fierce women warriors, widely feared by everyone who knew of them. As were the women warriors on the Isle of Lesbos during the Time of Illiad's writing.

6. Even in the Wild, in many species, the females are the hunters and also join the males as fighters, = auch as the African Lioness.

Con's:

1. Women in combat can be distrations to their male counterparts. Males can take unneccesary risks to "protect" female comrads from danger.

2. Many women in combat do not posess the physical strength to "hump out" a wounded male companion soldier.

3. Some female soldiers become too emotional during the 3 - 4 days of the menustral cycle when they are most affected. During this time many females are not only super sensitive, but all but incapacitated with cramping, water retention, and emotional hi /low swings.

4. Women are more apt to question an order or hesitate when given an order that they find morally repugnent or lethal. Such as given the order to kill an enemy soldier, most male soldiers will simply pull the trigger, whereas most female soldiers will stop and question the order, ans want to know why, and argue that it's not necessary or right.

5. Affairs with male servicemen, do happen, and so do rapes, and assaults in non-combat areas; now what happens when these start happening in combat zones? Will freindly fire incidents and "fraggings" also stat to suddenly increase?
What about the tension between a BF/GF "couple" when they have an ugly and bitter break up and are in the same aquad or fire team. How much risk does that put the squad and platoon at?

6. Sexual Harrasment. There are still neanderthals on earth, and some are alive and thriving in the military, and with a lot of stripes and time in grade. Command knows these old timers are throw-backs, and are rough around the edges, but they also know that these men ARE the Service Branch of the USA in which they Serve; for they have been in many war time campaigns, most of them wounded a few times, and all of them silent heros, to a man, decorated for bravery and heroism - that dosen't even begin to tell the stories of their heroism or account for the lives that they saved, or account for the enemy that they sent to their maker. These men are "Old School" and do not suffer fools, or by the book little girls or boys gladly.

And like as not some female or male1st lieutenant is going to take it upon themselves to bring one of these Master chiefs, Warrant Officers, or Seargent Majors to task, for some small infraction - just to show that THEY'RE an OFFICER and therefore they MUST be obeyed becuase of the weight of their rank, - which is about a heavy as a fart in a windstorm when they are trying to dress down a Master Chief Petty Officer with 28 years in,8 rows of combat ribbons & unit citations, 4 tours of duty in Viet Nam, and two Tours in Desert Storm, 2 tours in Desert Shied, and on - and on; while the 1st LT's have been "officers for 13 months, and each have a single solitary "firewatch" ribbon.

Not an easy thing to say what's right and what's wrong. Seems that for now we have enough young men in our Armed forces for Combat duty, so I guess until that changes, I would leave it that way. Thanks.

First of all I am a military wife I feel that yes women should be drafted as well unless they are raising a family because all we need is more kids out there without parents. But if you are single or have no kids then yes you should fight for our freedom unless you want to live somewhere else and have your citizenship taken away.
As for you retards who think there is no such thing as a draft in the U.S. what do you think happened in WWII! Just because the draft isn't in effect for today doesn't mean it won't be tomorrow! Lord did you sleep during history class!! Go back to your sophomore year!
But on another note incase you haven't noticed military wives are serving just like their husbands and dont' forget the husbands who are home while the wife is away!

HERE WE GO AGAIN....YOU JUST WON'T LET UP TODAY!.....Well, let me see......Women are not permitted in infantry roles, and men wouldn't want them there......Don't take it as being sexest......but women have a monthly cycle and women become pregnant unexpectedly which could seriously effect training and manning of missions.....Think about it.....And it's already difficult enough to watch other men die, without suffering mentally from watching women die....because to men instinctively women are seen as nurturers like our own mothers and that's painful. Women would be more useful keeping our economy up and building and supplying for us than in combat....Think about it. And realize that this is coming from a 2 tour Iraqi Veteran.

P.S. STOP WITH THESE QUESTIONS ALREADY.....

Mikey

IF, OR WHEN THERE IS A DRAFT BOARD IN THIS COUNTRY THEN BY ALL MEANS WOMEN SHOULD BE DRAFTED TOO....WOMEN'S LIBERATION MOVEMENT WANTED WOMEN TO BE EQUAL TO MEN that, in my opinion should MEAN equally fighting a war!

.....and I AM WOMAN!

BUT, if drafting is reimplemented, I THINK THERE SHOULD BE Noooooooooooo exclusions like, children of the president, children of congress and the house, exclusion of college student. IF WE ARE GOING TO FIGHT FOR THE FREEDOM OF THIS COUNTRY EVERYONE SHOULD BE PART OF IT IF THEY ARE PART OF ENJOYING THE BENEFITS OF BEING AMERICAN.

IT IS dastardly that BUSH WOULD CONTINUE THIS WAR SACRIFICING OTHER PEOPLE'S FAMILIES BUT NOT HIS!!! HE DOES NOT HAVE ONE PERSON IN HIS HUGH FAMILY INVOLVED IN THIS WAR.

hmmmmmm

There hasn't been a draft since the early 1970s. I was among the final 1,000 to be drafted.

women should not be drafted because they cant fight in a combat zone. the reason for the draft is to get soldiers who can fight. there is never a shortage of pogues/rear echelon in the military, but there are never enough grunts

It would have to be a modified form of the draft, and they would only be given support MOS designations.

The US is not ready to send their daughters, Mothers and sisters to a front line position in harms way yet.

By the way not my personal view on this if a woman is fit enough to fight with modern technology; why not.

Well since there is no draft, the question is pointless. Sen Chuck Rangel (D) NY authored a bill to reinstate the draft, but voted against his own bill. Nothing but politics.

I don't think anyone should be MADE to serve! Down with the draft. Why would any country want to force it's citizens to fight. If we are fighting for a cause good enough we would not have a need for a draft as people would gladly go to war. However we are fighting and have fought for the wrong reasons and if citizens do not want to fight for the reasons at hand I believe they should not be made to.....

NO to the NWO..
