Is anyone taking focilin XR. I'm a 23F that just started taking it this month. What are your side effects? Do you think the drug works well? Thanks

Focalin XR is like any other medication for ADD/ADHD. For some people it works well, for others it does not. All you can do is see how it works for you.

My boys have taken many different medications for ADHD....my oldest never had to "experiment" as what was given him worked. My youngest with severe ADHD and an extremely rapid metabolism had some that did nothing and others that he burned off so quickly that he had to be switched constantly since he would burn work up to and burn through to the maximum dose in a year and a half or less!

Most people experience no side effects at all. However, the side effects are:
nausea
stomach pain
insomnia
headache
nervousness
loss of appetite
weight loss

These usually pass after being on the medication for a while but the doctor should be told if you experience them. He might have you stay on the medication for a few weeks to see if it passes, but if it doesn't, will switch you.

There are also some rare side effects and your doctor should be notified immediately if any of these occur:
high fever
muscle issues
mood or behavior changes
severe sweating
swelling of the ankles/feet
extreme fatigue
blurred vision
sore throat

My 14 year old son has been taking Focalin XR for 4 years and has no severe side effects. He does have a loss of appetite around lunch time, but has soon as the meds wear off he eats a full dinner. If taken too late in the day he may have trouble sleeping.
