Congratulations on your position! Typing “out loud” here: In all honesty, how could anyone possibly hire someone for an entry level position and not properly train that person?
This is TOTALLY out of character - for me - anyway. YOUR “BOSS?” SHOULD BE FIRED OR TRANSFERRED! ASAP! And if I was the Regional Manager, TM [Territorial Manager], DM [District Manager] or store manager, he/she would be asked to leave. THEN he/she would be getting that company’s last paycheck for him/her NEXT payday! PERIOD! END OF DISCUSSION - as far as that’s concerned.
Here are some Don’ts & Dos
When it’s busy, DON’T lose your head!
DON’T watch the clock.
DON’T get in - over your head.
DON’T complain in front of the customers OR TO the customers about anything, for any reason, about any one at any time.
DON’T tell any one how much you get paid, how much you earn or how much you get tipped OR don’t get tipped.
DON’T put the eggs in the bottom of any bag.
DON’T put any bread, rolls or pastry in the bottom of any bag.
DON’T put any in-store sliced deli products in the bottom of any bag. In fact, bag these separate.
DON’T put any soaps, cleansers or chemicals in the same bag with any kind or type of food - not even canned food.
DON’T bag the larger containers/packages of soap , detergent or paper goods
DON‘T put newspapers, magazines or any printed matter in the same bag with any type of food..
IF YOU DROP IT AND YOU KNOW IT, DON’T put it in the bag. Go get another of the same size.
DON’T restock it without getting permission.
Dos
After using the rest room, DO thoroughly wash your hands - using soap and hot water.
DO be courteous to EVERY customer.
DO use your common sense.
DO keep your wits and your cool about you.
WHEN the customer wants it done, DO IT!
DO JUST grin and bear it!
DO double bag ALL meat, fish, seafood and poultry.
DO put all refrigerated and frozen items together.
I'm sure there are others.
Thank you for asking your question. I enjoyed taking the time to answer your question. You did a great job - not only for your information, but for every other person interested in reading my answer.
I wish you well!
VTY,
Ron B.

Congratulations on the job.
Never put Cooked meat and uncooked meat in the same bag.
Pack all frozen items together to keep them cool.
Do not make the bags to heavy.
Soft items at the top of the bag, heavier items on the bottom to avoid squashing.
Food stuff and cleaning materials should be kept separate.
If the store sells clothing then always pack it separately not with food or cleaning or household goods.
Eggs at the top and try to tell the customer that the eggs are in that particular bag. (So they do not put another bag on top when loading the car)
That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Do not put heavy things in with things that can get broke/squished ( like bread and eggs)
Put cold things in the same bags, it keeps them cold longer.
Put similiar things in the same bags, keep cleaning stuff away from food.
Put light things in with cans, if it doesn't hurt them( napkins on top of cans to fill the bag without making it heavier)
If you take out the groceries too, some people like the bread and eggs up front with them rather then in the trunk, ask them.
That's all I can think of right now.

Don't make the bags too heavy (distrubute the canned goods between more than one bag).
Put all the cold items together.
Put the soft items (bread, bagels, taco shells, potato chips) in a separate bag. You can put a couple of them in the same bag, but not with anything else.
Put the eggs in a separate bag.

Glad to know that you actually care about what you are doing! You should succeed!!!!
Here are a few of my pet peeves when it comes to bagging.
Please dont put anything with my bread. Chips, cookies, donuts, and cakes, should also not be put with any canned stuff, or anything heavy.
Please dont put a cantaloupe with tomatoes and bananas. Leave the soft stuff, like tomatoes, bananas, peaches, plums, and other soft fruits together.
Dont try to bag 4 bottles of soda in one bag. When we try to carry that bag from our car to our house,or apt, we it will rip for sure.
Frozen stuff with frozen stuff would be nice. Especially if you live in a very hot place.
Your boss was right about the chicken, as well as other meats, that leak blood. Nothing more disgusting than having blood leaking on a bottle of Gatorade that my kid wants to drink right away. ewwwww!
Also when placing the bags in the cart, heavy stuff first, then the light stuff like bread, eggs and chips should be laid on top.

cold items with cold items, produce with produce, eggs in a separate bag, bread in a separate bag and place it to the side and put it on top of the other bags.
But regardless of how hard you try there will be some old grouchy people that will complain about how you have done it. I was a bag boy in my youth. Sometimes you would think those eggs where worth thousands of dollars

Put refrigerated items together, when possible. Things such as cheese, sandwich meats, etc., Canned good together. Bread should never be put under anything. In fact, it can be better to put it in a bag by itself or with eggs. If someone is older or handicapped, it would be better to not put too much in each bag. They may find it difficult to carry them.

If the customer is purchasing a single pack of gum, a single candy bar, or a single bottled drink, as him/her if they want it in a bag. If not, hand it to them.

never put bananna's in with cold stuff or apples - it makes them go brown, don't put light stuff (like bread) at the bottom of a bag with heavy stuff in it (like can's or apples), just use common sense really, i'm sure you'll be fine =)

don't put soap in with cookies or lightly packaged edible items. I bought a can of spray for hornets and the clerk put in with some edible items......I know it is in a can but the lid could fall off.......just watch that kind of thing.
