I wore a necklace a very small one that I made myself to school today. It was a star in a circle and I painted it green. It was on a white string. Nobody noticed it but the principle ordered me to take it off. He said it was satanic. I tried to explain but he made me take it off. I could have made a big fuss to the schoolboard but I didn't. My mom who doesn't know I'm pagan hates them. I looked in my planner. And found out satanic symbols are not allowed. I'm not satanic. But shouldn't they ban crosses and all other religous symbols to then?
Why do they complain they are discriminated against when they are still allowed to wear crosses but other religions can't wear religious symbols??

It's possible the principal got a complaint from someone and had no choice. High school administrative politics are ridiculous, my mom was a guidance counselor but she just got so sick of that crap. In any case, since your necklace wasn't Satanic, print out info proving its non-Satanic origin and take it with you the next time you wear it, just in case someone complains again.

I am a Christian, and do not discriminate against Pagans or Satanists, and also understand the difference between the two. I feel that people should be permitted to wear whatever religious jewelry they like. Tell your principal that you're planning to call the ACLU. If you can wear one religious symbol to school, such as a cross or a Star of David, then you should be able to wear them all. That includes Satanic jewelry, in my opinion. I wore Catholic medals on a necklace to school, and nobody gave me any trouble about it, so the same right should be extended to someone who wishes to wear a pentacle. Either all religious symbols should be permitted, or they should all be banned, but to go halfway and show favoritism toward one religion over another is unacceptable (unless it's a private religious school, in which case, they may actually have that right legally).

Well, sounds like to me that your principal is a turd! He obviously doesn't know that satanits use an upside down or inverted pentagram. Most pagans I know don't even believe that satan or lucifer exists. Being a predominately christian society, there will be people in positions of power who will use their position to try and force their views on you. Whatever! Let him be the way he is and be the way you are. My best advice to you would be to research the path you want to follow AS WELL AS OTHERS! Believe it or not the bible has a lot great wisdom in it, as well as the torah, and the kuran. Technically you are right, if you or others cannot wear a pentacle, celtic cross, or what have you then christians should not be allowed to wear their cross. However life being highly unfair as it is you probably won't find justice in this matter. You know who you are and what you believe (for right now) until it changes don't worry about whether you can display it or not. Keep searching you'll find what it is you are looking for! Bright Blessings to you and yours!!

Because when you have Christian governments, everybody EXPECTS you to conform to their way. They only sometimes allow other religions to express themselves when they think there might be real trouble from it.

Your principle himself has shown a case of complete and utter ignorance for your religion, claiming that your necklace (it sounds like a pentagram) is a Satanic symbol. Pa-lease. As far as I know, there are no symbols for Satanism (I want to be corrected if that's wrong). The pentagram is a symbol which represents nature.

Just strikes me as funny that Christians seem to think that everyone who is not Christian is a worshipper of Satan. The majority of us don't even believe Satan exists!!

Definitely discrimination, although if you take this to a wholly Christian board, you might not get a favourable result.

It might be worth a try though. Only thing is, it would involve telling your mom. If you're not ready for that, then don't worry about it.

Your Principal is obviously a Christian and like most of his religion hates Satanists. Now I know it's sad but many Christians just don't understand the difference between being a Pagan and a Satanist let alone the difference between Pagan and Satanic Pentagrams.

What ever happened to the good ole days? I don't think pagan's are satanists. They just believe in magic and mother earth. I don't believe in magic or mother earth. I do believe in God and the day that someone tells me I can't wear my cross is the day I fight for what I believe in and I suggest u stand up for ur rights. The star of David is inside a circle and that is not satanic. Maybe u could do some research and then approach the school again. Good luck.

Same...that's why I made a shirt that says, "Got FSM?" to wear to that pit hole...'cause all the goody Chrisitan people have shirts that say "Got Jesus?" and all that on it...Point is...the Principals, teachers, and faculty won't care if you don CHRISTIAN stuff, but by their GOD you better not put on anything that is other than that...I remember that there was a Muslim girl at my school once, and the teachers kept telling her to take off the scraf (or whatever it was) that she wrapped around her head, she kept getting in TROUBLE for her cultural and religious beliefs...saddening. It wasn't until her and her parents had to take it to the school board that she was allowed it again....Me, I wore a pentagram to school once, just to mess with the peoples mind. It was hysterical to see the Christians eyes go wide, and all I can say is that I didn't have any problems getting through the crowded hallways...lol. That is until a teacher saw it and got me in trouble, I explained it had nothing to do with satanism, and even if it did it would be my own personal beliefs, she said that it was still against the school policy to show your affiliation with a religion, so I said, "Look around you, you have Christian stuff practically commin' out your school's a55es! I'm Atheist and that CAN be considered offensive to me, ESPECIALLY when the rules says, 'No Religious Stuff, Period.' " All in all I didn't get in trouble...but there's still people with "I love Jesus" shirts everywhere...it's sad.

Your principal is obviously ignorant. I would personally take it up with him (have proof) if I really had a problem with it. Also, inform him that satanism is a religion, and if you attend a public school you cannot be forbidden to wear a religious symbol. That's like say Christians can't wear crosses, but the easiest way to cope with it is just ignore them and relax.

It is a common misconception that I myself, once made dear.

First, some don't realize that often times,
it is just the star in the pentagram that they look at,
they don't check to see if the tip of the star on top is one,
or two,,,,,,,As we know,,,the upside down star, two point up, representing horns, is often affiliated with the devil, or bull god,,,,,,bull god not exactly pertaining to Satan,,,but the horned god,,wiccans and pagans not considering bull god to be satan, see the confusion among those who don't know?
,,,then there is the upright star, one point up, centered, that represents, as you say, nature, and also represent certain forms of witchcraft, or Wicca, pagan, religion,,,,forgive me if I didn't mention all walks, I am still studying, my knowledge is not vast,,,,,,

I don't believe you are satanic,,,,,you did react better than I would have, because I would have stirred a fuss,,,,,,a young girl in school, you did right, bravo.
It sucks being the bigger person at times, but you did the right thing this time around. Don't tempt things, your education is at stake, just be a bit more inward of your beliefs at this time.

It is tough growing up and being different.
I am not certain of your exact circumstances, but you don't want to push things at this point.
You must represent your religion or beliefs, that show you are a good person, not this evil being that he is trying to peg you as being. Do what ye whilst, but harm none.-Always remember that,,,,the golden rule ,,,,and always remember that what you send out, returns to you 3 fold,,,,
so by your patience, and diligence at this point,,,,,
you have earned yourself some of the same in return.

If granted the opportunity someday, you may be able to get your point across. But it will take a fight and numbers to get your point across, and honey, you don't really have that yet.
Be an example of who we are, by who you choose to be through all of this.
do not push or expect the banishment of all religious elements, that is really pushing things too far,,,,,
if we are not allowed to wear our religious artifacts to school in any genre, then we are in trouble,,,,,
wait til the time is right, then prove your point, and ask them to accept your star as a symbol of your religion, which is not satanic, but deals with nature, the star of David is accepted,,,,,your star is pointed upright, correct? then what is the problem?
This is a touchy subject,,,,,I can say whatever,,,,
but I feel that when you are older, the right for you to become who you are on a more public level will arise,
just not yet,,,,,we have to pick our battles wisely,,,,,
always remember that,,,,and only pick the ones you know you can win,,,,,don't exhaust yourself trying to change someone else's opinion over night, it isn't possible, and it won't happen, you have to show them that you will allow them the space to be who they are, without interference or segregation,
then merely request the same respect should you try be who you are,,,,,allow you the space to be you, without interference or segregation, so long as it harms none,,,,,do what you will.

ugh that makes me sick. You are free to wear jewlery of your religion. That's the exact same as telling a christian to take off a necklas of a cross. You should tell him to educate himself before saying anything. Pagans are definetly not bad. they are very peaceful people. Even satanism is not a bad religion once you get to know it. Wear this anyway and tell the principal you have freedom of religon. The constitution protects you. He can't physically make you take it off unless he wants a law suit.

I can't believe people still don't know about the pentagram symbol.
